Forbes @ Iowa JUCO

Is there anyone out there that can comment on what Forbes did at the JUCO job in Iowa while he was the head coach? I really like the fact the he spent five or six years at that level. JUCO is 150% recruiting as every two year you lose half of you players. Sounds like a home run recruiter, just wondering what people say about how he handled his players once they got there and his in game management.

I really don't like the fact that he spent 5 or 6 years at that level and then was never able to parlay that into a head coaching job.

Career Assistant Coach, there is a reason.

He has interviewed for mid-major jobs and couldn't get the position. Including Drake! This is pure insanity.

If the guy is really HC material, let him show he can do it at the mid-major level and then give him a shot to run a major conference program.

From what I understand, Steve has had many opportunities to become a head coach. He would rather serve as an asst at a top program then to take a job at a D II or mid major and work his way back up. He is being very choosy. Iowa might be his dream job and I hope he gets a serious look.

Can you provide any data to support this?

Because I have heard differently and I don't know of any instance where someone stayed at an assistant's level as long as Forbes and then got the HC position in a major conference, unless it was an internal promotion.

He's only 44. He started coaching 1 second after graduating from college.

Can you provide data to support this? I am trying to figure our your connection to all this from the viewpoint of a college prof and can't figure it out yet. You have such strong and definitive opinions on this, but I cant make out if u just don't like Forbes or what it may be

You know, you might be right. He might not actually have not gotten an official interview at any of these mid-majors. But dude, he has tried. Believe me.

Can you provide any data to support this? Or are we to believe you simply because you say we should?

I don't know Forbes personally. But I have been involved with a coaching search at a mid-major, Mid-South university during the last three years and am familiar with a couple of the guys who rep coaches.

Forbes is the assistant who gets passed over when AD's look at the assistant ranks, and this includes the traditional stepping-stone mid-major jobs.

Of course he still might end up being a good HC. But I just think people should be taking a step back and asking some of the tougher questions.

Can you prove any data to support what you say?

Since you have been involved in a coaching search, I would be interested if you could enlighten us on what those tougher questions would be??

If its as you say it is, then why are you worried about it? Parker search does their due diligence and if they find anything amiss or that doesnt seem a fit, it takes care of itself. Opinions on this message board will not hire the next head coach at iowa

I can definitely see your point CAARHawk, why would we want someone who has been around success his entire career. We would be much better off going with a Mid Major coach with head coaching experience as that has worked out soooo well for us the last 2 times.

I don't think he is 'worried' about it. He is just making a statement.

So you are saying that he should go to the mid-major level, so the next time we have a job opening everybody on here can complain about how Iowa should stop going after mid-major coaches?

He has been very choosy...but was open to listen when a few people called. He has worked with some very talented people and all have a ton of respect for his abilitys.

He would be great at iowa if given then chance. He passion for the program would be unparrelled. He is a guy who has built relationships in all areas of the game and will rely on them to help get the job and succed if he gets it.
