For all of yo moaning about Iowa's drug policy

For those of you complaining about Iowa's drug policy (including those in the media...)

Please pull your head out of the sand, and pour some common sense into your coffee.

What if the starting QB or RB was suspended for a game because they had never gotten in trouble and they smoked a little weed? We'd all be furious. So not treating every situation in black and white is smart of the football team and of the athletic department as a whole.

They can't come out and say well it depends, we're not as concerned about marijuana as we are about cocaine because both are illegal substances. But I think that everyone could agree that one is much more severe than the other.

Exactly.

And also, why would you want to damage someone's entire future (regardless of whether the play in the NFL) because they experimented with weed in college? It doesn't make sense. There needs to be room for gray because that's what life is like.

Also, Iowa and ISU have incredibly similar policies regarding drugs. I don't know about UNI, but I would guess it's similar as well. As a taxpayer in this state, I'm fully behind the rules as written. It's what is best for the students, and I'm behind that.

I am much more concerned about possible drug use on the team and how it relates to the collapse on the field than I am about Iowa's testing policy. I can't figure out how KF lost a team with so many well respected seniors (Clayborn, Stanzi, Greenwood, Reisner, Vandervelde, Ballard, Hunter etc).

The testing is put into place to identify kids early and get them treatment, not punish them.

I wouldn't be furious at all. Smoking a little weed is an illegal activity and scholarship athletes should not be engaged in it. Missing one game isn't too harsh of a penalty, not by a mile. You don't have to disclose the reasons for the suspension. But you should suspend.

Dude, you need to lighten up... no pun intended.

Weed is illegal to possess but in many municipalities, not illegal to use. I know of several municipalities that refuse to prosecute for marijuana. These are still kids who are going to want to be able to live like other students do. I don't care if they're on scholarship, they're still entitled to lead their lives.

The coaches put forth their rules and I'm fine with the rules the way they are.
