Florida D-End Taajhir McCall Signs with Hawkeyes

Both of our late signingshave quite a bit of potential it feels like. Might take a few years to put it together but both could be those typical Iowa under the radar studs.

Dline depth for next year hasn’t been fixed yet I don’t feel. The rice DT cancelled his visit I’m not entirely sure why. Who knows where the Nixon situation sits.

Right now we have four proven guys, then Shannon and Waggoner would be next in line, if they are both ready to contribute that gives us 6. Would be really nice to add someone to the mix that can make an instant impact but not sure if that’s possible. I don’t expect any of the true freshman to be ready.

McCall looks to be more of a true speed rusher to which Iowa hasn’t had a ton of in the KF era. I would consider Roth, Clayborn, and AJE more combination guys of speed and power.

Will be interested to see how it plays out but maybe he turns into more of a pass rushing specialist. Our coaches have done a good job of gettting the best players out on the field in recent years on defense.

What's your take on this young man, Rob?

I saw him at the basketball game the other night when he was officially visiting. He's going to need some time with Doyle as do most linemen not named Epenesa or Wirfs.

He reminds a little of a shorter Golston when the latter was coming out of high school. The athleticism is there. Will need time to work on technique. I wouldn't expect to see him until 2020 at the earliest.

He can run...that's for sure. I like this type of guy...he'll go from 225 to 260 and not lose a step is my guess. It's always fun to watch DE's who can move sideline to sideline and deliver some blows. I remember when Clayborn was a junior and we were playing Arizona at home and they had a small quick back (really good) who makes a move in the backfield to avoid Ballard, and bounces outside...Clayborn was coming down from the other DE position and got over and tripped him up with a swipe of his arm...at one point they were in a race to the edge and Clayborn made the play. I was sitting about row ten and it happened in front of me and I saw the back look at Clayborn and say...."What the f$&k!"

Here's to speed at the DE position.
