First time I have seen the Hawks on TV...this is not next level basketball

Well I guess Tyler can dunk the ball hard at times and JBO can hit the 3 ball when he is on. But, it seems like the same ole problems exist.

-Guard play lacks.
-Not enough shooters
-Not finishing around the rim
-Poor Defense
-Going away from what was working....running an offense getting the post players touches.

Hopefully this team can play inspired at home. But, this team looks nowhere near being one of Fran's best teams at the moment.

Even bad teams make contested layups against us at an 80% clip at least. It doesn't matter how difficult it is, if they get the ball underneath, it's pretty much an automatic 2 points. We don't even make wide open layups at an 80% clip. It's been that way for as long as I can remember. How is every Iowa player so bad at making layups?

Iowa could use a post player specialist on the coaching staff....along with someone who knows how to coach solid defense.

Looked more like a Lickliter team on height steroids.

Iowa could use a coach who brings in better players than Nebraska Omaha and South Dakota ST

Well at least at the guard position. Fran does ok with the off guard guy who is suppose to be a shooter mainly.

However at the point guard position where you need an explosive player for break aways, and an ability to penatrate causing the defense to break down, and a guy that can get back on defense to stop the fast break, well needless to say he struggles recruting this type of player. What’s really strange is that every team we play against seems to have at least one of these guys.

I try to be positive, but
this game sadly reminds me of the athletic gap between us and elite teams. I fooled myself into believing it's not that far, but when you see every player on VT's bench is faster, stronger, and more athletic (except for Cook) it is disheartening. Watching Iowa unable to score with any contact the word "fragile" is all that comes to mind. My expectation just lowered to NIT. The parts are greater than the sum of this team.

But they can jump! I guess I was expecting way to much from them this year. Hopefully the Hawks can turn this around by conference time.

Yes, someone else that gets it! JB is a good basketball player but he is no point guard.

This team will struggle to make the NIT he just has not assembled the proper mix of players to make the ones he has successful. Everything on this thread is spot on. We've seen this story before. As I've said many times we've seen the culmination of Fran's high water mark it's maybe on occasion a 2nd round NCAA tourney game....on occasion. I can't really see the point of keeping a guy that can't win conference championships (although he did at Siena). Unless we are just satisfied with status quo...but Barta hasn't really sparked faith that he can hire or FIRE anyone the proper way he just doesn't have the moxie we need at the top of the athletic department.

JB is a good three point specialist. I have seen nothing about his game that impresses beyond that. The problem is if you move him to 2 he is way under sized and will be even more of a defensive liability.

You have to be impressed with his passing and ability to see the floor. Fran has gotten away with no real PG in the past as he had players in the 2-4 positions that could slash the lane. Isn't there this year. Maybe I"m wrong, but I don't see a lot of room for improvement. However, the Big isn't very good this year.

At this point I would settle for a good dribbling guard who could play a little D. Were Iowa's sneakers lined with cement?
