First half vs Milan

Everyone is talking about the competition sucking, but that's based on the talent level of this team. If a Lick team was playing in these games, the competition would be pretty good. I'm not saying they are good teams or anything. I'm just saying not every D1 team would destroy these teams like we are.

For the sake of comparison, NC State beat the Italian team we played yesterday 100-64 a week ago so pretty much exactly the same type of beatdown. That's if the article I found online translated properly last week when I was trying to figure out exactly who we were playing. Looked like they were scheduled to play NC State, Iowa and Emory for their three games. NCSU were 15-17 last year and 109 in Kenpom with no postseason. So I'd think any major conference D1 team that isn't a complete rebuild situation or decimated by injuries would crush these teams rather easily. Best I can tell the German team was thrown together just for that charity game and the Swiss team, Baden Select, was a one off as well since it's the only game mentioned on their facebook.

I may have to go back on what I thought of Garza. Flat feet or not, if he plays in the post with that kind of motor, he will be a huge asset. He will struggle against athletic bigs on the defensive end but that's a Reggie Evans type of motor (not a RE build, obviously). I know it's against sub par competition. That's why I limited my optimism to his motor. Which should be there no matter who he plays. That's as close to a mea culpa as I am willing to go, until I see him against higher caliber competition.

Good info thanks. One thing about how Iowa tho is they are playing their end of bench players the same minutes as their best players. Not sure if NC State is doing that or not. Either way, point taken that a slightly below average team is still way better than them.

Here is the schedule of the tour we are playing on. The team we play next has two more games after vs Fairfield and Colorado, so it'll be a low D1 team (204 Kenpom last year) and a team we play later this year in Colorado (72nd, one spot behind Iowa) to compare things as much as one can in an exhibition.

I wonder how they got the all star hockey team to volunteer for this? :D Oh, that's right it is a charity fund raiser event. I wonder what Fran really thinks about these teams he is playing.......... "We need to get back to the PTL so my players can at least get some good practiice in........... at least in the PTL there is some offense." Lol

Well I guess it does at least give Fran a chance to sort of evaluate how his players will do against other players...........and I am sure the guys are enjoying seeing another part of the world. :)

Maybe when they prepared for Iowa they were looking at film from the Lickliter era. That would explain their scores in the 50's. They expected to win by four or five points. :p

Great post @lightning1. No matter if we agree or not very often, I know you bleed black and gold and root for the Hawks!

I think he is going to still struggle like all Fr. do at points. He is absolutely going to struggle against athletic bigs as you say. It just takes time to get the footwork and moves down required to overcome that difference in athleticism. I had always thought that at some point Woody would figure that out, but he never did. Garza looks to be at a whole other level offensively and I think he will become good enough by his Jr. and Sr. year to do well even against athletic bigs.
