Not the coaches...I mean the dipshits who decided that having a presser today was a good idea...

Seriously, is Jamie Pollard running the Iowa Athletic and Sports Information Departments? Because this merry band of dimwits caused this firestorm...all of the information we need will come out in time. We didn't need a hastily thrown together presser full of "we don't know", without the big dogs present. If this thing had been handled correctly, today's press conference would have consisted of one thing...the doctor in charge of caring for the players...to update us on how they're doing and when they can be expected to be released. The rest could have waited until all of the information was gathered.

Thanks, U of I Athletic and Sports Info Departments, for causing the lemmings to head for the cliffs and for giving everyone something to talk about during the half a month break til the Super Bowl...oh, and thanks for nothin'...you freaking morons...
 
Say what you want about Jamie Pollard and your thoughts on the man but he runs a 10X better PR department than Barta has run. Not even up for logical debate.

I've said it before, Barta is a bad AD. He had a great AD before him in Bowlsby and has enjoyed the run of a great coach in Kirk Ferentz to help pad the Athletic departments pockets. But Barta has done nothing positive at Iowa and everytime something negative happens (DJK, Everson, 12 players in hospital), he handles it like a clueless man

Iowa has respect b/c of Kirk Ferentz and the AMAZING job he has done at Iowa. Not because of Barta. Barta is worthless.

17...I wasn't commenting on Jamie's AD skills...I was coming from the angle of a rival infiltrating the athletic department to bring it down from the inside...

I know my post will come off as trolling and it shouldn't. I really respect Ferentz and think Fran will do fine at Iowa. Don't love what Barta has done at Iowa. Just never seems to be a 'leader' when he needs to be. Which is bad when you are the athletic director of a big time school like Iowa

Everything you write here comes off as trolling. In the few instances where I offered an opinion on ISU athletics at CyFan, I was asked why Cyclone fans should give a **** what an Iowa fan has to say.

Consider yourself asked likewise.

I found myself defending Barta when it came to people hating on him for the Lickliter hire...but the more I see, the more I don't like...but that goes for the SID's office as well...it may be time to get some people with more PR savvy into the mix and stop letting Kirk and his "Belichick Way" control the information stream...it's not working out on a LOT of levels.

I'm not going to defend Barta, but you can't say he hasn't done anything positive. He got Kinnick renovated and in August a brand new state of the art basketball practice facility is opening along with renovations to CHA.And the biggest positive, he got rid of Lick even though he created that problem.

And if Cy thinks Fran is good hire.. well.. hmmm... what was that about nothing positive Barta has done again?

Kinda tackled yourself on that one.

Your right about him being bad with the press but he certainly could be doing a lot worst interms of other areas for progress.
 
I read the OP the same way. JP would never make the PR bungles Iowa has. My hope is that they've been taking notes on what NOT to do.

Now I see you are talking about a saboteur in the SID office... now if that isn't the case they probably should just clean house because they've proven about as inept as humanly possible

Bowlsby was the guy that got Kinnick renovated; that project started after the 2004 season and Barta (I think) came on board sometime in early 2006. I'm not sure if he hired Brands.

Bowlsby got Kinnick renonvated and it's easy to raise money for CHA renovations when you are coming off an Orange Bowl win. Once again Kirk is the man. Barta just needs to not mess it up

Yes Bowlsby did get Kinnick done, but the practice facility was started before the football season last year. So when is the all mighty JP going to get that south end zone bowled in at JTS?
 
Time to clear out some dead weight at the U of I. There are plenty of folks who've been collecting checks for years that should be replaced. This is another embarrassment.
 
This definitely could have waited until 10 AM this morning and have Ferentz present for sure if not Barta. I don't understand why you wouldn't wait....and then to have a doctor there just for some "star power" because he's a top kidney specialist but really has no knowledge of how the kids are doing....why wouldn't you have the head of the treatment team???
As Halas said, everyone needed to see Kirk and/or Barta as the face on this story. Project a united and capable front.
