Fire Barta

The Ferentz's are not going anywhere while Barta is in charge. The guy is great at fund raising, but lacks in every other area.
We need to see him go before anything else will happen.

Time for Barta to go.

being that he has cancer, you can't really fire the guy while he's on medical leave. That would really make the UofI look really cold hearted.

Ferentz doesn’t work for Barta, it’s the other way around.

Firing him would do nothing to get rid of Ferentz. He’s been deeply entrenched in the program and donor base for 20 years; he’s not goin anywhere.

Of course you can fire him.. The U of I athletic dpt. isn't a charity.... it's time for him to go
Ha, charity? Look at what Ferentz has been getting away with now for how many years?!?!? He's been here almost 20 years and has had only 6 really good seasons. 2002-2004, 2008-09 & 2015. He should have been let go after the 2012 season. But no, he's got his good bud Gary Barta watching over him. It's' almost like Ferentz is getting away with a crime.

The football team makes money. As far as the administration is concerned there isn’t an issue and there won’t be until it doesn’t make money.

Happens all the time in business. Especially with self insured businesses. Is he really on FMLA? Seriously though, a lot of people think FMLA and anti discrimination stuff is about protecting the worker. It's really about protecting the business.

Not on this band wagon, but I think he's better prepped financially than most of us.

A lot of people don't know this, but only 1 out of 3 retire in this country when they want to retire. Most are "retired" earlier. Sometimes it's related to ability. Other times its about MONEY.

Average "retirement age" comes earlier than you think. It's not 62 and it's not about Govt Pensions for the most part.

For those who are nearing retirement age without enough savings, you are screwed and don't know it if you were planning on working into the sunset and you aren't self employed.

Has she been an AD? Was she at Rutgers or somewhere else?

I dont mind the idea because I think she would be a straight shooter.
Hasn't been an AD to my knowledge, but she's in the hall of fame and I believe she has led 3 different schools to the final four. Simply put, she's a winner.

Talk of firing Barta for KF's shortcomings is like talk of firing some of the fan base for tolerating, er, loving KF. The problem isn't Barta or some of the fan base it's KF.

Besides, the AD is a political office. When the AD does things, as in politics, the AD's criteria for action is how others would respond to that action rather than the validity of the action. Case in point, an AD would've admonished everyone to drink the Kool-Aid in Jonestown.

There isn't an outright revolt of KF in the fan base so the AD isn't going to think of firing KF.
It isn't on Barta. It's on us.

If Barta is AD when KF retires, I fear he will facilitate the promotion of BF to head coach.
A new AD would not be so invested in the KF regime & legacy.

As for grounds, several posters on this site have mentioned the overall mediocrity of the Iowa Athletics program during his tenure. Combine with the infamous legal settlement, I think sufficient grounds exist for 'retirement'. But it needs to happen before KF retires.
