Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com Ranking - Rivals.com Rivals250 2013

As expected no Hawkeye commits made the list this year. I was hoping maybe one of the border line 5.7 rated guys would have made the jump up to a 4* but it didn't happen and I don't think any of the remaining targets for this class are on the list either so for the first time since 2008 Iowa will not have a 4* Rivals kid coming in (starzz matter bro).

On the flip side to that ISU got their first Top 250 kid since Cheesedick was holding the clipboard back in 2007. Campos is sitting at #188 on the list.

He didn't it looks like.

Wow that is kind of surprising.

I think that Iowa's class isn't stellar or anything but I like the fact that on Rivals Iowa didn't have any 2* guys. Plus how many of the 4* players from the past 3-5 years actually panned out and really played to their potential. I am not saying that stars don't matter because I believe more often than not they do. But Iowa can't afford for the ones they do get to bust, get the injury bug, quit school/transfer. They need those players to excel and attract other players at that level of talent to want to come to Iowa.

Hill is still a 4* but just outside of the top 250. But as you said, I do agree. The 2013 class isn't loaded with high end talent but compared to the 2008 or 2009 classes for example when at least half the classes were 2* kids, this class isn't too shabby.

Makes me want to vomit seeing 3 Indiana commits in the top 250, as well as so many that Iowa had offers to that had no interest in the Hawks, or decided to go elsewhere.

I think back to '08-'09 classes and saw the 4* guys and disregarded the rest back then. Now I think about it and see what happened to most of them and now I understand why this team was failing. I know that Ferentz and staff are to blame for things like clock management and play calling and training but recruiting busts hurt too. An abundance of 2*/walk-ons starting and on the depth chart don't help much either. Not everyone can be a Mark Weisman.

When people who don't follow Iowa as closely as I do ask me what I think is going to happen next season, I just say, "Well, I will call to any game I can, if I can't go, I will watch them no matter what."

I am a Cubs fan, it's in my blood.

How about all of those headed to Pedo State? There were at least 3 or 4 guys on that list headed there including a 5* QB. F'd up.

They are going for the tradition of the program minus the child abuse and cover up and lying.

And most importantly, minus a bowl game too!

I think they are going for the chance to meet Al Pacino when they come to shoot that new Pedo State movie. They might get to be extras in the film if that isn't some other NCAA violation that could get them into more trouble.

See guys, the list pros of going to PSU as a player are growing and growing.

It's a good school with what appears to be a good football coach. It's also probably somewhat close to home for those kids (I didn't look).

People make a difference . Programs turn the corner every year with a change in personnel that have better sales skills and thus the ability to upgrade talent.

Hopefully some of the staff changes we have seen in the last year as well as more recently are signs that a certain someone has a better appreciation for this. It needs to happen soon as most recruits eventually need to see the program moving in the right direction to buy into the storyline.

I am guessing they are legacies or their parents are alumni and/or grow up fans. Based on the below, looks like only 1 4* or plus guy was from PA. Maybe O'Brien has gotten some of these kids to buy in that he isn't leaving.

Adam Breneman - Yahoo! Sports 4* from PA

Christian Hackenberg - Yahoo! Sports 5* from Virginia, JC look-a-like.

Brendan Mahon - Yahoo! Sports 4* from NJ

Garrett Sickels - Yahoo! Sports 4* from NJ

In terms of what is important to have a good program--#1 with authority is recruiting. The current staff at Iowa is not good at it. I won't say they suck, but they clearly are nowhere near the upper echelon. I place the blame primarily on the head coach and coordinators and their almost pulseless demeanor. All great guys to play bridge with or perhaps go to an antique show I am sure, but kids want to see some fire and excitement in their FB coaches. Not exactly getting that vibe from KF, either Parkers, KOK. Can you see Greg Davis closing anything other than perhaps a tackle box?

With that said, I will be thankful that this class is not chalk full of 2 star and NR kids. People that say ratings don't matter are incorrect. Sure there are lots of misses out there, but for the most part, ratings are an accurate judge of talent.

Coming off of a 4-8 season, if we can add Spearman and another WR, I think this class is a pretty good success, considering the circumstances.
