#1--Using the list as you have presented, then 11 champs automatically qualify for a playoff, plus 5 at large.
#2--This year, the big ten would I think get in 2 at large based upon SOS. In past years, SEC. (As a side note, using SOS correctly would majorily curtail the cupcake scheduling we see now in an attempt to protect the "perfect record"...perfection wouldn't be mandatory. Playing a tougher schedule would be)
#3--If/when a playoff system commences, with my premises, there would be a natural consolidation. Look at TCU getting into the Big East for example.
#4--And looking at your list, I could see, after the dust settled, eight conferences remaining.
