Ferentz the Sandbagger

Look at the college football standings right now. There are a lot of really good established coaches that are struggling right now. While I do not always agree with what KF has done I think we really need to be cautious when we hope the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. I said it in another thread and I will say it again. The players have been in positions to succeed this year and most recently this game, they need to execute, period.

A lot of truth here. That said, still running into 8 man fronts too often.

Little surprised by your choice of screen name, Mrs. Ferentz.

Who needs to execute? I'll point out a lack of execution from the staff. You send MVB on a go route instead of ISM. THAT is a lack of execution from the staff.

True. For Example

That double reverse just keeps buzzing around in my mind. The WR on the playside, just ran inside and defender followed him, then saw the play coming back, the WR decided not to block him. The defender doubled back and snuffed out the play.

When this guys job is on the line like 2015, he decides to coach and produce. Once he gets his extensions.......back to average at best. Two weeks to prepare and we score 10 points. Almost predictable from this over paid part time coach

I really wonder about the contract thing. After 2004, big contract, next few years are mediocre. People start to grumble. 2008-09 were excellent, then big contract, and next several years were mediocre. People start to grumble. Then 2015 was excellent, big extension, and here we go again...

At some point, you have to force the defense to change defenses. If you are saying, our passing game isn't good enough and won't be effective if we rely on it...that's one thing...but you can let a defense put 8-9 people moving forward at the snap. You can't run the ball against that...it's a losing strategy.

Even if it's to force improvement in the passing game...I say force the defense to change. Throw it until you hurt them and force them to play their safeties and linebackers honest. Otherwise every game is going to look like this.

that being said...receivers have to catch the ball. Several drops today...that you just can't have. It stopped at least 4 drives today, and the one at the end was the clincher.

Will Kirk look objectively at the result of Brian running the offense or will nepotism rule the day. By any objective standards the offense stinks. We have a very inexperienced OC with two coaches with vastly superior resumes working under him. If the offense just showed a pulse I would be happy to see Brian learn on the job, but seriously this is embarrassing. Just seems it's more coaches out of place than players at fault. Players offside on a 4th down play! Not covering the featured back on a 3rd and long! Posting after a loss is emotional but I was at work and only followed the score. What is the problem with this offense? How are we making a very good running back, experienced offensive line, and a QB with a cannon look so bad?

I think KF/BF are putting a lot of FR and RS FR in the starting line up so that in 2 or 3 years we will have one of those good seasons. Just in time for KF to retire and BF to be handed the keys to the program.

Does that make this a throw away year? If that's the case play all the freshman and sophs. like Lovey is doing at Illinois. I guess us stupid fans should just realize that Iowa is not a destination coaching job, that Iowa will never recruit in the top 35 in the nation, and we should just be happy that we field a competitive team. Meanwhile, Fran is one player away from being a team with realistic Big Ten title aspirations and beyond.

KF will not do what Lovie is doing, He wants that 7th win. So when he does retire in 3 years, as has been mentioned, he gets a great golden parachute.

Kirk doesn't care or he never would have hired his son. As bad as our offense always is, if he had any kind of integrity he would have gone out and hired a well established OC, but no, he is just trying to pave the way for sonny boy who absolutely sucks as an OC. Stanley might have a cannon, but he is way to inconsistent as far as accuracy goes. Finally threw one good deep ball today, but he really has no touch on his passes, just throws it as hard as he can. Our line is soft, we have zero talent at receiver, and teams know this. So stop the run, which nobody has trouble doing, and we are done. Throw in the fact the neither Ferentz can coach, and you see the dumpster fire on the field.

I think there is some talent in Iowa's receiving corp. but they just don't get a chance to show it. Only throwing on predictable downs and pounding the running game when it's not there just makes every drop magnified. I'm convinced this team should pass to set up the run. Could it be any worse than the 3 and outs our offense consists of now?

Bingo.
