Ferentz on Coe

Can he comment on Rodney Coe? Otherwise this seems like a very terse response:

Q: You have one guy in the class that won't make it. Can you talk about that?

FERENTZ: There is really nothing to say.

I think what Kirk said was all that needed to be said. It probably would have been within rules to say more, since he was signed with Iowa, but best to stay quiet. Why beat on a kid while he is down??
Next man in!!!!

Bet some of those Southern schools on his offer list are getting a chuckle out of this. Not like he would've had issues qualifying there...and I'm not talking about lower admissions standards. ;)

Is there anymore to say at this point? The guy didn't qualify, he's going to a community college, classes start in fall. There really is nothing else to say for about two years.

My memory is not good, but didn't Seane Greene go to junior college for awhile, or at least sit out a year? Could Coe come back to Iowa after attending junior college?

I don't think the full story has been written on this young man!!!

Greene attended Iowa, flunked out, went to Kirkwood to work on grades, then returned to Iowa. While at Kwood he couldnt play football since they dont have a team.

Exactly. the point being, players can return from junior college to the Iowa program. I expect Coe to do this, and to be a good contributor. Am I wrong in thinking this way?

You're not thinking "wrong," but statistics definitely aren't on your side. Everybody recalls Solomon, Spievey and Greene as the players that left, went to JUCOs / community colleges and returned to have successful careers. The problem is the majority of players that don't make it to Iowa City or have to leave due to academic issues usually never return to play for the Hawks again. And I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but that's sadly just how it seems to go.

Would be nice if the Iowa program asked Greene give Mr. Coe a little phone call to give him some reassurance. Wouldn't be surprised if it already happened.

Will he have 3 years of eligibility after JUCO?

He would have 2 years. If you are not an academic qualifier coming out of HS you have to graduate from JUCO before you are eligible to play. Thus he would have two years at JUCO and three years to play two seasons at Iowa (or whatever program he ends up at).

Admittedly I don't know the JUCO redshirt rules, but couldn't he take a redshirt year at the JUCO level and then still be able to play 3 years for the Hawks after that (assuming he graduates from JUCO)?

A thread about what ferentz might say If he talked about Coe? With the conclusion being he won't talk, but if he did he would say there is nothing to say? Must be summer...

Yes, I think he could, but I doubt that he would.
