Ferentz: JVB Gives Us Best Chance to Win

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz reiterated on Tuesday that quarterback James Vandenberg continues to play because he gives Iowa its best chance to win.

I think the Wildcat w/ a direct snap to Bullock gives us the best chance to win. Either that or set up in a short punt formation every offensive play and let Weinke chuck it or punt it as he sees fit. Go Hawks?

Again, I don't think this is necessarily about who starts or who is getting most of the snaps.. I think what irks most people is that our backups have gotten a grand total of ZERO snaps this season. Unless I have missed something. Perhaps I blinked...

JVB might be the QB that gives us the best chance...but the coaching gives us no chance.

What is your first hand account of the quarterback competition?

When the best quarterback on the team losses all confidence it is highly unlikely he is still the best quarterback. Kirk is gambling on JBV getting his confidence back and so far he is losing that bet.

I fully believe that confident James gives us the best chance but I can hardly remember what he looks like.

If anyone expected KF to say anything different they are kidding themselves. JVB will take every single snap this year. Not saying I agree with it, but this is par for the course.

No way to figure out if a guy is a gamer if he never plays a game. Even Ferentz has no clue what these guys can do on Sat.

If Vandenberg looks great in practice and sucks on Sat., you play someone else to see what they can do. Maybe nothing, maybe something, or maybe Vandy gets his head out of you know what and wakes up. (like Jantz against Baylor)

If vandeberg looks the same at practice as he does on Saturday, and the coaches think he is still the answer over the other guys then the future is bleak.

I believe they are questioning his honesty more then the "competition".

A good example is 2010 after the Wisconsin game. 1 time out, and you just got a 1st down. Spike the ball is the only option. Especially since your down by 1. You need 15 yards to put it at a 40 yard FG.

My opinion on the QB competition is the isn't one, JVB is the only one who gets a chance. That isn't competition. However I feel it is the system that is bad, not JVB.

maybe a little reverse psychology would fool the old coach. At the pressers ,tell KF what an awsome job Vandy is doing..He only needs to throw 13 TDs without an interception to match former Hall of famer Jake C. Tell him there is no way on earth that anyone else plays QB. Then maybe he'll think hold on..I'm the Captain and no one tells me how to run my team.. Weinke starts this Saturday!

This is what every coach in the world does except one. Kirk either doesn't understand when to make a switch, is to loyal to make a switch, or is to scared to make a switch. Whatever the reason, any other coach would have tried another qb by now.

Ferentz is great at some things - trying to "mix" things up or try something new with any real candidness is his major downfall and the sole thing that ever kept him from being a great coach.

Even when we did the no huddle.. it was half assed and he never kept at it. He just can't stand change - its almost a mental condition.

I say kept in the past tense also because his days of glory are done.

Now I'll be more than happy to eat crow on that... but sadly I don't think I will.

Wow, I can't imagine how bad you feel the system is. If the system is bad and JVB isn't thats one horrible system. As much as I hate the way were playing offensively, I dont think there is a system out there at this time that could make JVB look good.

Not calling you out by any means, because everyone's entitled to their opinion, and I respect the opinions of others, but man you must absolutely dispise this system.
