PHOTO: Iowa's Kirk Ferentz Buys Patriotic Ricky Stanzi Art
Article:
Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz owns “Stanzi†– as in a framed piece of art dedicated to that ultimate patriot, ex-Hawkeyes quarterback Ricky Stanzi.
According to reports, Ferentz had the winning bid for a framed sketch of Stanzi both in his football helmet and in his uniform with helmet off and hand over heart. The sketch is over an American flag background and has a famous quote from the signal-caller.
The quote reads: “There is nothing better than being American … this is the greatest feeling. If you don’t love it, leave it. USA, No. 1!â€
Stanzi said that on live TV while being interviewed after an Orange Bowl victory over Georgia Tech after the 2009 season. The art is via Iowahawkart.com and was made by Iowa City’s Sean Thompson.
Stanzi, now a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, had become popular for his flag-waving tendencies, as Iowa fans paid tribute to him in YouTube songs and on t-shirts, among other things.
Now even Ferentz can genuflect in front of his new piece of art.
