Ferentz and twitter

This has to be the kind of worst case scenario that Kirk envisions when it comes to college football players and twitter:

I figured Indiana cornerback Andre Kates would be in trouble for some postings on his Twitter page last week that criticized the Hoosiers' coaching staff.

Kates, a heralded junior college transfer, questioned why he wasn't playing more. In a tweet last Wednesday, he wrote that IU's coaches were "playing with my [expletive] career" and vowed to bust his [expletive] on special teams. The next day, Kates tweeted: "People Say Dre You Actin Like OchoCinco I Say No Bro Im Getting My Point Across That My Coach Don't Want Me 2 Play!

Then on Friday night, hours before Indiana's home game with Northwestern, Kates tweeted:

"I'm Suspended For The Game 2morrow For My Tweets, and Facebook Being Media Attention, and Also A Distraction Toward Him!"

As of Sunday night he is suspended indefinitely. They were counting on him as a big time JUCO transfer.

I think KF's worries go beyond this stuff (which he can probably handle). I think he's more worried that one of these kids will say something that will permantly damage thier reputation as a person or attract NCAA attention.

I know I said lot's of stuff when I was 21 years old that I want back now, I'm certainly glad social media wasn't prevelent then. I mean all it would take is some kid to say something in a tweet that refers to a betting line or something and all hell would break loose.

Can you imagine someone saying "we are 6 point favorites but no way we are going to win by that many the way we are practicing" or something like that? The NCAA would have a field day.

1) How effing stupid can a person be? What did he think was going to happen when he put that stuff on twitter?

2) This guys sounds like he is nearly illiterate. Nice commentary on Indiana's football program.

It's a pretty big jump to think the tweets of one disgruntled player are an inditement of the entire football program. I don't know why a logical person would infer anything other than this is a disgruntled or maligned kid.

1) Oh, I don't know. I always thought the way to endear myself to my bosses/supervisors was to was to rip them on social media.

2) With a 140-word character limit, Twitter requires a much different way of messaging. Don't indict the player or the program.
