FBI investigates Rutgers whistle-blower for possible extortion attempt

Something hasn't seemed right about this all along. Yes, the leaked videos from practice were bad and Mike Rice deserved to be fired. But why did the former assistant coach, Eric Murdock, take video of the practices when he knew it wasn't allowed and why did he take them to ESPN? It has now been reported that the FBI is investigating Murdock for a possible extortion attempt in seeking $950,000 to make his claims of wrongful termination go away.

There are now also questions about why the fired AD, Tim Pernetti, received a severance package that includes more than $1 million in salary, two years' worth of health insurance and a $12,000 a year car stipend through 2014, regardless of whether he finds other employment.

If you read between the lines of the statement Pernetti issued after he was fired and the comments made by the Rutgers president the same day, the ex-AD seemed to blame legal counsel and the university's HR department for the decision not to fire Rice immediately when the videos first surfaced. He may have his own claim against the university, although it's likely the severance agreement would prevent him from doing so.

What a mess as the school prepares to enter the B1G.

This is what happens when lawyers are involved in situations that, in the past, would simply be common sense. The coach physically and verbally abused players. There was ample evidence it occured. So the common sense thing is to tell him to get the f*ck out and he's being terminated for cause.

But no, you get lawyers involved and they "advise" that in order to avoid the POSSIBILITY of being sued, just pay out the contract and say he was fired without cause. What kind of horsesh*t is that? In what line of work can you physically and verbally abuse the people you are hired to "manage" and not have your a$$ thrown out the door without one cent of severance being paid?

Goodness our society is stupid!
