Fan who called into Fran's show

I ran across this and found it interesting. Fan claims to be the person who called into the show, saw this in the comments section of the article. I personally wasn't listening that night when he called in, however fan felt the need to respond. See below.

McCaffery defends McCabe after fan’s remarks | TheGazette

As. The guy who started this whole thing I would like to respond to this. I am a HAWKEYE fan. Fran hosts a radio show and fields questions but gets angry when I ask a question that is not maybe the most positive but it is what I see. I am not trying to say I know more about basketball than Fran. Now to address what happened on Wend after they cut me off. I don’t care if someone has put in 4 years there I believe the people who give you the best chance to win this year should play. If a guy is hot for a while of course they should play like he did in Atlantis. You say he played so well against Michigan when they were up by 30 points he should have played well. I know Fran has to defend his players so I knew he would not like that comment I made. So can we talk about Saturday yet does anyone want to defend him? I’m sorry Fran that you got so upset with me you should be happy that you have a fan that loves the team as much as I do that I want to see us achieve something that we have not done for a very long time. #HAWKS!

He loves his team so much that he still isnt ready to claim his stupid thoughts by using his real name. Unless he is such a diehard that his parents named him Hawk Fan.

And yes I know HawkIPA isnt my real name, but I am not taking BS shots at student athletes on here.

I'm amateur FBI - I'm building a psych profile on this guy.

40 yrs old (+/- 5 yrs) white male, divorced, overweight w/body odor issues. It's a start on ID'ing this guy.

This guy will be easy to spot on an early September Saturday in or around Kinnick stadium. I bet he wears Oakley half-jacket sunglasses and coaches middle school baseball, too. That should narrow it down even more, or not.

Maybe the OP was the caller. He has brought up the incident several times.

For the record I believe this is the first thread I've started on this topic. I also know that many more people have discussed and commented on this incident more than I. Nice try though IPA..

Then allow me take some valid ones:

4.2, 2.7 31%, 26 from 3pt and 59 from FT.
4 points is his high total in a B1G loss this season.
0 points vs ISU

Fran says many people forget what he did against Xavier. Despite its obvious horrendous omission of logic, that's an encouraging statement. It proves he DOES still look at stats and care what they say.

Develop Uthoff. It's not too late.

Would his opinions be more valid to you if (s)he was a thin black female?

No, but I doubt any thin black females are calling into Fran McCaffery's radio show. I'm guessing 90% of callers are white males, so it wasn't much of a stretch.

Why would a fan use their real name? Why don't you? Your comment would have much more credibility if you did.

The only thing you were accurate about is the fact these are student athletes. However, they are in most cases receiving a free college degree which many kids and parents would love.

On top of that, the coaches are paid a lot of money and if they don't perform they are fired. You can look at this as these are sensitive 18-22 year old college kids, but the fact is this is a business. If a kid is going to play sports at the D1 level and they want to be on Twitter, they better darn well form a thick skin. They will need it in today's environment which is full of crazy people.

We are pussifying the kids of today and telling them how wonderful they are. Then we send them out in the real world without protection from their parents and close friends then they get their feelings hurt.

Here's my message to the players. Thanks for giving your blood, sweat and tears for the Hawkeye family. You will always be special people to most fans. Now don't read message boards or have a facebook/twitter account. Basically, grow a pair. You'll need em in the real world.

He wants to play the "superfan" card and call out these guys then he should have the guts to put a name to it.

Im not looking for credibility by discussing the Hawks on a message board, this dolt fan obviously is or else he wouldnt be continually telling us how big of a fan he is and how much he loves the Hawks.

Are you not a fan with a view? So what is the difference?

Appears this dolt fan is doing so because of what Fran said to him. Same type of stuff happens on here all the time when someone pulls out the Bandwagon fan card.

I don't live in Iowa anymore nor did I hear his comments. Did he call McCabe a name or just question his playing time? If it's the latter, isn't that what a call in show is for? You have to take the good with the bad and when you lose there will be some bad comments from people calling in to these shows.

I must admit I am a huge McCaffery fan as what he's done to bring this program back to relevance in 4 years from where it was is pretty incredible to me. However, I sit watching games and sometimes question certain things. I honestly don't understand, at times, the playing time McCabe receives lately or having in in games late. He's had a rough middle to second half of the season so far. Being a senior and/or hustling means nothing to me. If you don't get the job done you play less. That was the point of my first post. We can't always tell people how great they are. Sometimes they just aren't very good. It is was it is.
