Fan apathy hasn't been this bad since.....

what year would you say people gave less of a crap out Iowa football, if ever?

2012 when we won 4 games against an easier schedule. That's the only year I can remember that fan apathy was this bad. It would be one thing to look bad knowing that there was talent in the pipeline and new coaches coming on board. It's another thing to look this bad with a bunch of 2 star talent and coaches who are some of the worst I've seen.

The thing about 2012 was the potential was not there like this year. We beat a good Ohio State team, we came within a play of beating a very good Penn State team . We won on the road to a good Iowa State team, then the rest of the games have been so up and down, with the Wisconsin game in particular, just a complete no show on Offense. I can handle when a team is consistently bad because the team isn't good. It is maddening when I have seen what this team can do but then just have terrible let downs both from the players and coaches. I guess thats football.

Agreed. That is the most frustrating thing. We know what they CAN do, and then we see what the coaches LET them do despite knowing what worked before. I don't actually think the coaches want to lose, but it's just mind boggling as far as what we've seen on the field the past two games.

2012 for sure because even losing the two tackles that year, KF stubbornly let James Vandeberg take every snap, could have got Rudock some really good experience. But 2012 was followed by a pretty decent 2013 but again we might have won a couple more in 2013 if Rudock hadnt have been so inexpericenced to start with. 2013 also had the 3 new lbkrs who all had no expericence at the same time, bad coaching planning.

Actually I was more pissed in 2014 because Rudock took a step backwards, CJ looked better, the offense was stale very stale and predictable. The loss to Iowa State was and is now in my memory again one of the worst losses by this staff where they coached so timidly. I almost stopped buying season tickets but then held on for that great 2015 season. This should not be such a rollercoaster ride week to week and year to year. A really strong coaching staff would have built this program up to be good 3 deep.

'12 definitely was hard to stomach, but, personally, I was never more down on the program than I was one minute after the 2007 season ended.

Ironically, after the 2012 season, on TOS there was a thread about who we wanted to replace Kirk should he miraculously be canned. My choice was up-and-comer Western Kentucky coach Jeff Brohm. Ah, what could have been...

I read this as "the offense was Kirk very Kirk and Kirk."

People seem more pissed off than apathy. The BF hire as OC has fans out for blood it seems.

You are right but what most people fail to take into account is KF is going to keep his style of offense and there just are not that many experienced or good young OCs who have worked with or want to work with this alignment.

Personally I like Brian...and someday he may become a very good OC. Kirk chose to take the nepotism route with that dipstick Barta's blessing so now we can enjoy watching BF learn until Kirk's contract is up. WE did the same thing when we hired Alford, who was in over his head when he was at Iowa, and we paid him to learn and then he bolted for New Mexico of all places.

How would you know that? It's a PRO style offense Bama runs it...you don't think OC's want a chance at a Power 5 conference?!

I don't really see Alford as comparable to Brian. Alford was a head coach before getting the Iowa job, and he had no family ties to the university. I wouldn't say Alford was in over his head either. He was just an asshole and people eventually got sick of him.

I think we'll be able to know for sure when Iowa gets selected to go to either Detroit or New York, and virtually no one buys tickets.

People might buy tickets to New York since there are plenty of things to do there. Detroit on the other hand...

What you say is true he did a little D3 job and did great there then did a good job at Mo State but we hired him largely on his MVC tournament resume and Steve's tournament resume esp. conf. tournament resume is really hard to beat. He's always been the master at that. Probably more differences than similarities.
