Execution? Scheme? Both?

What a game. Great game plan, but I feel the bigger thing was improved blocking, catching almost everything, hitting cutback lanes....solid tackling, JJ, and yes...a little good fortune.

I need to rewatch to be sure but was the playcalling significantly different? I did seem like we did throw more on first and second down...and ran short side a little less. But, by the numbers...was it really that much different...or did it just feel like it because we were picking up first downs, extending drives, getting stops, +3 turnovers, better field position, and yes a little good fortune? Maybe even the uniforms.

That was incredible to watch, and I do think there were more wrinkles, motion, formations.

Can one of the more analytical posters lay out some numbers?

Whatever it was (probably a combo of thing)...keep doing it!!!

Best over offensive performance against top defense i can remember at 41 years old.

At one point in the 4th qtr, 42% of our plays resulted in a 1st down or touchdown. I think we threw on first down at a far greater pace than any other game besides ISU (our now second highest point total). We forced OSU's back 7 to turn they backs to the LOS and then we were able to run. We ran on consecutive plays a couple of times, but nothing like we typically do, in my opinion. This was our first game plan that felt like a "downfield attack" game plan and, as a result, had almost 250 yards rushing.

What I don't get is why Ohio State abandoned the run. They were gashing us early on and then started trying to move the ball passing. At one point I thought they could read option 50 times and we would lose the game. Iowa out coached Ohio State plain and simple.

I had heard that OSU doesn't do well covering tight ends and we exploited the s*it out of that all game long. That, imo, was a thing of beauty.....they had no answer.

We finally came out and decided to beat a team throwing the ball and a funny thing happened. OSU then decided to play us more balanced after we hurt them and moved the ball in the air...and guess what happened then...the running game opened up. Now, I will tell you, part of this equation was OSU's arrogance because they thought they were so much better on defense than our offense, that they could play us straight up without an additional player in the box.

I loved every single TV shot of Urban Meyer looking like he was being repeatedly kicked in the balls all day long. I may have enjoyed that as much as the game.

You all have brought up great points. I would only add that when it was tied at 17 and it looked like we were going to be in a shootout that we didn't necessarily have enough ammo to be in OSU totally panicked with their play calling offensively. Dobbins should be looking to transfer kind of bad. 6 touches for him? 1 in the second half? No way was their game plan to only use him that much going in so why did they not? We've been run on like crazy this year for the most part and instead they thought they'd just ride Barretts decision making.. Well that and not making any adjustments on the fly sure burned em.
Or maybe the pink locker rooms just totally mellowed them at halftime and that's why they didn't do anything after that who knows... ;)

C.

There were not a lot of wide receiver motion across the formation pre-snap (which can tell the QB man to man vs zone coverage) but there was a lot of shifting which can somewhat do the same thing. This can help the QB and receivers know what to look for a do.

The double TEs on the same side was used very well to hide one of the TEs coming out on passes. OSU had trouble picking that up. But really most was staple pass routes with great execution. Receivers were getting between dbacks and the qb which makes for easier throws.

About the only thing I didnt see much of from a pass route area was the comeback pattern and the deep post or out pattern.

What about late in the game when he was playing with his nipples. I couldn’t tell if he was signaling a play or just wanted SOMETHING to feel good on a rough Saturday afternoon.

Last night was a great example of how executing in the passing game not only opens up the rushing game, but also opens up the playbook. Do you think that BF could have called the game he did if the WRs and TEs continued having the lingering cases pf butterfingers they have shown this year?
