Good read. From article:
Following his first season as Cedar Falls’ quarterback, Boettger anticipated no-contact passing drills at the camp. He ended up receiving a scholarship offer from Iowa — as a tight end.
The Hawkeyes’ coach invited Boettger to attend a padded camp session the following Monday.
“They put me up against the best defensive end that was there,†Boettger said, addressing a one-on-one blocking workout. “It was definitely a transition, but it was a really fun experience. Getting the offer was something I’ve dreamed about my whole life.â€
“Coach Ferentz said if the (Cedar Falls) coaches wanted me to play quarterback this whole year and not even have a snap at tight end that would be fine,†Boettger said. “I told Coach Mitchell that, but I also told him that I wanted to work on tight end just so I wasn’t completely blind going in.
“They just asked me if I cared what we did and I didn’t care. I just said I want to win.â€
Three weeks into his senior season, Boettger has a team-high 10 receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also filled a void at an injury-depleted defensive end position.
