Everyone should read this

Here's a great case study in how complete BS gets repeated and takes on a life of its own in the context of a process like this coaching search.

Yesterday, Scott D of the CRG posts a blog entry saying he's spent all day chasing down a rumor that Marshall is a serious candidate for the Iowa job. He provides information from his efforts that all suggests it isn't true, and certainly doesn't serve to either verify it or imply that it might be true.

This morning, Andy Katz says on ESPN that it looks like Gregg Marshall is a serious candidate for the Iowa job, and he cites the Cedar Rapids Gazette as the source of that information.

I thought it was fairly obvious that the only citation for rumors were other rumors.

The plain and simple fact is that people want information, even if it is wrong, because they have an insatiable lust for it. I have been saying for weeks that people want "info" first rather than getting info correct.
