Everyone should bring two large plastic bottles of water to NIU game

Some years back when the UI wouldnt let you bring any containers in and before the renovation when there were maybe two water fountains at Kinnick I emailed bowlsby to tell him how absurd and idiotic it was to have 70,000 people in the stands with little access to water, passing out with heat stroke instead of buying jacked up priced water. It is especially idiotic I told him when right across the street is this great health care education center and hospital which would probably say give out as much free water as possible on those days.

So if it is real hot and humid for the first game I think it would be great if 70,000 people each showed up with 2 16 to 24 ounce bottles of water. What are they going to do make everyone pile them up and the entrance gates.

92 and sunny is what is being forecasted. Yes everyone going to that game should bring plenty of water.

Not going to happen. Too easy to bring in other clear drinks then. Did he email you back?

No he didnt email me back but I was glad to see they put in many more water fountains during the bathroom and other remodels.

Yes, you can bring in unopened water and then I just fill her up again.

There was a time they wouldnt let you bring in water which is what I was talking about I guess, sort of lost my focus there

Yes, you can already bring in 2 bottles of unopened water as long as it is a clear bottle. I brought in a Deja Blue once and had to throw it out since it's a blue bottle. But yes, computer models are forecasting temps in the mid to possibly upper 90s next Saturday, with heat indices pushing 100+. It will be the hottest game in years, maybe the hottest ever? Not sure what the record is on that, but since we have very few August games in history I would imagine few were ever hotter than what this one is shaping up to be.

one word...Botabags! (well in the day anyhow, ie Camelbak descendent)

Anyhow....You may be right on the temp prediction. I remember going back to IC in 1994 and the RV we rented lost it's AC unit - thank you Iowa Ave, 10' 4", no chains-at-the-time, heavily overabused, bridge - and it of course was hotter than **** all weekend. Sooo, I looked it up and it says only 86`(my recollection was 93, oh well, still sucked).

Nonetheless, I remember a few others being super hot, so I looked up all Aug/Sept games from 1979-2012...while there were many in the 70`degree and high 60s, most it seemed werehigh 70s/low80s. The highest in IC according to Farmer's Almanac was 92 degrees in 1999 vs Nebby (we lost 7-42). There were only 3 others that were above 90 degrees, 9/17/88 vs Colorado (we lost 21-24), 9/12/98 vs ISU (we lost 9-27), and 9/3/05 vs Ball State (we won 56-0).

I didn't look at temps of any away games other than ISU, and as it turns, the hottest 2 games we played in the state of Iowa were in Lames....9/10/83 (we won 51-10) it was 96 degrees high in lames....9/10/05 (we lost 3-23) in 94 degree heat.

So I guess what all that means is that Bud is correct in that this could be the hottest game in IC for the past 34 years anyhow. (bring the powder and anti skin stick stuff so that when you're wedged into your seat you don't stick to the baking human next to you....Oh and everyone, please wear deodorant! ;)

Thanks for doing the research Colorado. I was going to mention the Ball St game in 2005, I recall that game being very hot, but I was thinking around 90 was the high, plus it was an 11am kick, so it wasn't as hot at the start. With this being a 2:30 kick we'll be at peak heating at kickoff. Regardless of whether it will be a record or not, it will almost certainly be hot next Saturday.

While not at Kinnick, I remember the Kansas State game at Arrowhead in 2000 being very hot. A quick look at the history books says it was 95 that day in KC. It was 91 for Ball State in 2005.
