ESPN-Brian Ferentz article

Tell the applicants that applied it isn't newsworthy. Shocked we waited this long to see this type of article.

Actually ESPN ran a story on this a couple of days after Brian got hired. I'm not sure if they are insinuating unfair practices or what. Can't quite get how this is news.

Despite Brian Ferentz's obvious qualifications, ...
We are going to pretend there is a scandal

As long as he doesnt move back into section 8 housing at pheasant ridge, nothing to see here.

Get him espin. Since when does a position coach for the greatest franchise in the NFL qualify to be a position coach at his mid tier college alma mater

I actually like coaches who pay their dues...sort of like a guy named Kirk Ferentz...this is not just a Ferentz issue, though, as nepotism is happening all over the place in football. Grudens, schottenheimers, the ryans...do these guys get put right into NFL coaching staffs w/out their fathers? I would say no.

I would venture that there are hundreds of coaches who could do as well, from high school to small colleges to pros. So, while I would prefer guys who pay their dues to guys who get by on their daddy's last name, it doesn't mean daddy's little boys are lesser coaches. It does mean that they are provided some sort of entitlement to skip right past the directional schools and the moving the family every other year as you make connections. Something Norm Parker had to do...Kirk F. did it...ron aiken, philbin, etc.

You are correct it is not funny. I am probably just a little bitter since I had to work full-time and spend 10 years paying off a student loan. A kid from a multi-millionaire family living in government subsidized housing while cashing his room payment for extra cash from an athletic scholarship is wrong to me.

I've been a tough critique of kirk and even I don't see an issue here. The housing thing was an issue however along with many other issues. This is not one of them.

on one hand a poster states that young ferentz is preferentially treated as a millionaire coaches' son by getting hired as a position coach i.e. living in his shadow.

on the other hand young ferentz is chastised for living outside of his millionaire dad's shadow by living in pheasant ridge (which was completely legal for him to do), and certainly not a 'sexy' option for a college football player with a millionaire dad. (having gone to school in IC and lived there 5 years and friends with many on the football team and others on other sports teams - i know pheasant ridge and where and where not to live as a student - pheasant ridge is not rosy).

which one is it?

If you're still bitter about that, you probably need to find a hobby or get laid or somethin.

You are right, I need to move on. I think it is a generational thing. Kids now have no problem cheating unemployment, living in govt subsidized housing and who knows what because it is the generation of everyone is winners and you are entitled to everything because you are special.

i know the first football player to live at pheasant ridge - that was approximately 20 years ago. this is nothing new. i used to make deliveries out there, and wouldn't have wanted to live there no matter how free it was. i never understood wanting to live there, but hey, that's me.

Ferentz was over 18, and certainly his father, the head coach, has said he wants his players to grow and have their own experiences during their college years. that would include his son.

Actually, I thought it was REALLY funny. And anyone who goes to the trouble to remember and link the other times he referenced it is either petty or has to much time on their hands. Well, maybe not petty, but a nit picker that can't take a joke, at bare minimum.

They lived there because it was paid for by the government and they could pocket the checks given to them that was meant to pay for their housing. It was probably legal, but to me that is why we as a country are screwed. Everyone wants a free ride, especially the younger generation that was brought up to believe they are special, are all winners, and their ego is the most important thing in the world.

Hey if its ok with Obama to extend unemployment payments for up to 10 years....its ok with me too. When I check out at the grocery store and the person infront of me purchases all their eggs and milk with food stamps (wic) and then buy their alcohol and swishers with the $1, $5, and $10 still rolled up from selling dope thats cool. There are obviously flaws in the system so atleast he was going to college when he took advantage of the system unlike so many others that feel entitled for some reason. No I'm not bitter and yes I get laid.
