ESPN Article "Week 2 Overreactions"

Article pretty much echos what has been discussed about the Hawks on this board.

My favorite from the article? "That's why we love college football, a sport in which Iowa State is a College Football Playoff threat one week and still the second-best team in its home state the next."

Key word right there....

Wow, Iowa is getting some good press right now. That should help make the recruiting visits a little easier.

The funny thing is this is all ESPN's doing with Iowa's unrealistic ranking. Iowa fans and Kirk know we are not a top 5 team. We never said it, they did. But a free beer is a free beer, I'll take it and run. We can be a very good team if the offense comes together in the next few weeks. Meanwhile games at Maryland who's vastly improved, Penn State, at Wiskey and NW, like in strait weeks and at Nebby plus a Purdue team that is much better on offense this year makes any talk of being in the CFP's as incredible premature. On top of that we would have to beat the best of the East in the title game. I'm just enjoying kicking the clowns when they are up. Hopefully the starters take care of business in the next two weeks and we get to see lots of back-ups getting valuable playing time.

Who is Iowa ranked above that has a better resume after 2 games? Yes we may have some flaws on offense, if they didn’t then Iowa would be Alabama. I think the offense can get better and I think these next 2 games can give them a chance to do just that.

I agree, rankings are a moment in time based on what you have done and who you have played.

People tend to think it’s a way to rank potential or talent.

Popularity contests (I mean, rankings...) are exactly what Curt Ferentz said they are during his presser yesterday...

The top 3, maybe 4 teams in the country are usually undeniably so, and after those teams it's pretty much a jump ball. #22 can beat #6 any given weekend.

Polls are moronic. Ranking systems with formulaic calculations are not. Even though they may have slight biases, they are applied equally to all teams.

And college football fans who look at the Coaches Poll are the worst type of people. If you think a P5 college football coach spends 30 seconds of his week filling that thing out you're an idiot. Here's an experiment for you...Ask Nick Saban or Brian Kelly if they know who won between BYU and Utah or ASU and UNLV last week and whether they were close games or not. Those coaches polls are filled out by some grad assistant FNG as part of his or her clipboard list of shit to do, right after refilling the Gatorade cooler and just ahead of making sure the weight room lights are turned off at the end of the day.

Bottom line, polls are stupid.

Exactly... This is a case of our resume is what it is compared to others... It's hard to know how good ISU and Indiana are. Seems like they were both over ranked. Time will tell. If say they kept Iowa in the low to mid teens instead then everyone would be screaming at them 'the resume the resume' Early season rankings are a crap shoot takes 4 or 5 games to sort out where teams kinda are.

So with this playing out like it has Iowa can't play any kind of disrespect card anyway. Most logical fans shouldn't think that the team with the worst offense yardage wise in the power 5 is a top 5 overall team. It's just a tough thing to make any sense over. Granted a 2 game sample size is pretty small but Iowa's offense doesn't pass the eyeball test either. Hopefully that'll change
