Enjoy the ride...

Iowa is 16-4. We have 11 regular season games left, a maximum of 3 BTT games with a Thursday bye and a trip to the finals and a maximum of 6 NCAA games if we make the championship game. So even with a dream scenario we’re half way through the season…20 games down and a maximum of 20 to go.

Marble, McCabe and Basabe came to Iowa when there was no reason to come to Iowa. Siena had a better program than Iowa at the time. Fran came to Iowa when the cupboard was bare…1 or 2 players is an empty cupboard IMO. These 3 players had a lot to do with getting it all going. They started to give us some credibility on the court and in recruiting. They are the seniors on a team that was ranked in the Top 10.

After 3 plus seasons they have a maximum of 20 games left in an Iowa uniform. We should beat Michigan State tonight but if we don’t…enjoy the ride. Whether we win the regular season championship or go 11-7 appreciate every game and every minute these three are on the court. We get to watch them a maximum of 20 more times. Soak it all in and savor it.

Fran will still be around and the program is on solid ground. Tom Davis had the program on solid ground and had some very good teams…yet he only made the Elite 8 once. Stuff happens. Street, Bullard, Kingsbury, Thompson and Recker come to mind. Great seasons go sideways.

Hope for the best but enjoy whatever comes…especially over these remaining games. We have reason to be optimistic this year and in years to come but there are no guarantees. There is one certainty. This is our last chance to enjoy 3 Hawks that helped make us relevant and take the program back to what it was for many years…a big deal for me personally. Enjoy the ride!
 
I am excited about the future of this program, like I have said many times Fran appears to have this program up to a point where they reload every season which is what Mr. Davis did. This senior class already has 70 wins, they have a chance to pass Horner and Brunner who ended their careers at Iowa with 79 wins. Who could have imagined that possibility when they started 11-20 as freshman? Next seasons group of Seniors will eclipse this one, and the class with Woodbury, Gesell, and Clemmons has a chance to end up with more wins than some of the classes in the 80's. After suffering through the Lick years you're darn right I am going to enjoy the ride!

Just to be clear, what is the maximum number of remaining games that we may get to see the seniors play in an Iowa uniform? Not sure if you mentioned that in your post.

Amen to that!

Of course I want Iowa to win the Big 10, get a high seed and make a run at the Final Four this year, but after the Lick (and Alford) years, I have to admit it feels great to have a team worth watching again, and being ranked. I'm happy just having a good team that is fun to watch.

I think Basabe gets a lot of the credit. His freshman play helped provide some much needed hope.

Marble has become one of the better players to where the black and gold and McCabe has had a solid career.
 
I agree good ride.

My expectations b/f the season was 3rd or 4th place in the Conf and a tourney bid.

The Hawks have raised the level to where we all want a Championship bad, and a top 4 seed in the dance. (Fair or not)

Now before each game, I get the butterflies hoping for another big win.
I didn't even pay much attention 4 years ago.

That is how things have changed.......
 
Great post OP. No matter how things turn out, we owe our Seniors and Fran a huge debt of gratitude for turning a sinking ship into a luxury yacht.
