Eddie Podolak!

I had an Ed Podolak (looking at the Tops sets, it was definitely the 1974 card) playing card, bought in a fresh pack of gum, and it wasn't a classics set. Had no idea who the guy was, but the name stuck with me until I came to Iowa and it all fell into place. Tried to trade my brother for it, but he wasn't going for it.

I could get as much as I paid for the pack of gum back in the mid 70's for the card today.

I watched the game with about 15 family members. We were scheduled to have our big Xmas meal after the game. The gals wouldn't go ahead & carve the Goose & Turkey. None of the guys would leave the game to do what was supposed to be our job. It went on forever & since we were all Iowans, we were pulling for Podolak. In defense of the gals, they wouldn't leave the game either. Podolak was unbelievable, in a losing cause.

I don't know my NFL football history that well but what was amazing to me was how many players had other "real" jobs besides pro football. One guy worked full time in an auto plant, another was a tie salesman....when did the big salaries start?
