Early Returns

It is early and Ive seen a lot of teams start slowly and really come on when it counts, but I thought this team was a bubble team in a pretty tough conference from top to bottom. Even Northwestern wont be an easy out this year . So far its hard to get very excited. Our guards are good sometimes, our front court hasn't dominated inside (you wood like to think with a 7 footer it would be hard for teams to penetrate but thats not the case. Jok can really get on a shooting streak but the rest of his game needs work.
Again its early but you have to wonder how much help this new bunch of players is going to be? So far not much. Wagner looks like he can rebound, Ellison can hit a three, the rest is really a work in progress. We sure dont have any 1 and done talent or even 2 and done. Uhl who I thought would step up appears for now to have stepped back.
Way to early to give up on this team, but they better get it going sooner than later as quality non conference wins will get them in the tournament. Without those I dont see this team finishing high enough in conference play to get there.
Maybe even more than concern for this year is next year. some of these new guys need to start showing something or next year could be tough

I bought the hype that Woody was transformed over the summer into some kind of man-beast. He's not. He's the same player he was last year. And that's not bad. He's an excellent defender and passer, but Iowa needs more than that on the inside.

Like Longtimer said above, I'm not giving up on this team. But we've now missed 2 chances for quality non con wins.

A lot can change by the time the Hawks get to B1G play. At least I hope it does. Cause what I've seen so far says NIT.:(

Kinda unfortunate that the better teams keep losing. Right now I'm more concerned with the loss colum than I am with quality wins, so playing ND and Wichita State isn't the best thing for us.

Would be really nice if they can get a W against Wichita St and not come home empty handed. Agreed iowa needs quality wins, but are going to have to really toughen up defensively or the NIT is going to be the best case scenario.

I feel the same way pretty much and in fact I would take the redshirt off of Moss and let him get his lumps, learn, and grow. Someone among the lower classmen is going to have to show us something we can look forward to or this year and next are going to look very bad for us.

Imagine what our team now will look with Woody, Uthoff, Gessel, and Clemons gone......... Yikes!!!

This team is looking good. They dominated Marquette who would later beat a top 25 team. I think that they will beat Wichita St too.

Great post. Would only add emphasis to the fact that it appears Woodbury has regressed from his first three years (which weren't great).

Hoping for NIT.
