Duzey is still trying to get the Nebraska Defender off him today.

Funny, I didn't see a thread on this...but in the OT, that third down holding on Duzey was ridiculous and there were two officials right there. That was one of the most blatant holding calls on a critical play I've seen...he held him for almost 5 yards. Guess what, that wasn't even the worst hold. If you go back about 3 seconds, the same Nebraska defender grabs Duzey early in the play as he tries to move across the field. And he got away with both of them.

I have no idea how that's not called, but that isn't why we lost. We lost because we stopped playing offense again when we had a 17 point lead...and when we tried to pick it up again, our QB was dead cold and missed two certain touchdowns on deep balls. At one point, Jake was 12-27...if that doesn't tell your head coach he doesn't have it, well, not sure what does. He came back and led the drive to get us ahead, then the defense blew it, but those 5 straight possessions with a lead where we didn't do anything gave Nebraska hope. Playing with a lead is something KF doesn't get...he always expects his defense to win the games. How's that feel this morning KF?

I posted about that hold/ PI it was completely blatant. That should have been called if not for that hold it would probably have been a TD.

It is inexplicable how we lost that game. Nearly impossible even for Ferentz yet so typical.

We have zero offensive playmakers - ZERO. Guys like Wadley and CJ look like playmakers but that will be coached out of them

My friend told me that on their ot touchdown they had an illegal player downfield. Anyone else see this?

I saw several plays where they were holding. Also saw several false starts, encroachment and roughing calls missed.

While KMM, Smith and Powell continue to run open this morning.. Was at game and it is a joke that this staff continues to allow JR to keep that job. No vision-Weak arm etc...

Iowa should have scored 50+ yesterday on that Nebraska Defense!!

The OP is correct and the only explanation I can see when Ray Hamilton gets called on two false starts while I saw Nebby linemen just hook their arms around our defensive linemen multiple, multiple times. When I sit 42 rows up in the east grandstands even with the south end zone and I can see Kenny Bell push Mabin off on that last drive for offensive int on Nebby that gets called on Iowa. And then a few plays later I see a Nebby offensive lineman just wrap his arms around LTP or some hawk defenders neck and no call. You remember this play because the hawk defender was just livid holding his arms out in disbelief.

And I am not even going to discuss the multiple grabs and pass INTs that nebby pass defenders were employing.

You know for the most part the Hawks dont cheat like this as it is cheating when you do it all the time.

Again, this could be KF being too nice a guy and not telling players to interfere and bend the rules.

I totally disagree with the bolded part above. The defense played great in the first half only giving up 7 points when the hawks had four turnovers. The fumble gave nebby a short field to end the first half.

The defense didnt have a great second half but the defense was not on the field for two big nebby punt returns.

On that final drive the pass INT against Kenny Bell made me sick, terrible call, that should have been a no call or offensive INT. Nebby was handed a gift and then got another gift at about the hawk 30 yard line when they missed that holding penalty up high on the body right in the middle of the line.

As you can tell I thought the refs sucked and they swallowed their whistles

This^. We were up 24-7 and people are complaining we lost due to penalties. It didn't help, but my God, if we even had a slightly competent QB this game was over by the half.

Most certainly if the refs called the game right in the 2nd half.....Iowa likely wins the game. But, that is what happens when you put the game in the hands of the officials at times. Really, Iowa only has to look itself in the mirror for this loss. The game was lost in the first half when Iowa failed to put at least 21 points in the red zone. Instead they came away with 3 points. Add in the fumble that led to the first Nebraska touchdown before the half and then there is your game. If Iowa is up 28-21 to 3 at half and Nebraska is not coming back. Instead 10-7 Even if Iowa scored 6 more points off field goals in the red zone.....Iowa wins this game based off the final score.

Though, amazing as that is......Iowa builds a 24-7 lead and Nebraska was dead to rights. But, again, the offense failed to do anything for 5 straight possessions with poor playcalling and poor quarterbacking by the body by Jake. Nebraska gains confidence (you could see it growing on the sidelines and on the field) their special teams come alive and the Nebraska coaches make offensive adjustements. Beating Iowa conventionally on offense was not working, so they just throw the deep ball and let their receivers make a play on it and it was a good tactic to deploy as our d backs have been lit up over the course of the year on the deep ball.

Iowa might be the best program at finding ways to lose a football game (you could throw basketball in there as well). I have heard this is Nebraska's greatest come from behind road victory in their program's history.

It sucks , yes the officials didnt totally cost us the game but late came bad calls and non-calls do directly affect the outcome of the game.

Bad or non calls earlier in a game give coaches a chance to overcome those calls but late game calls can be huge.

Being at the game I think this is weak sauce blaming bad calls. That Iowa offense left 3 to 4 TD's on that field at a MINIMUM, FLAT OUT JOKE!!!

GD should have been FIRED already.. He is a the biggest JOKE and shouldn't be employed when Iowa boards the plane to it's bowl destination..

Just to be clear, when I made this post, I wasn't blaming the officials for the loss...i was just pointing out how bad the final call was on Duzey...he got held early and late in that play...and the guy had ahold of his jersey while reaching with the other arm to defend the pass...the exact definition of pass interference. There were two officials there and neither called it. The guy then holds up both hands like he didn't do anything...another sign of guilt. Nothing...that was a terrible terrible call and the officials didn't want to impact the game...but did so anyway. KF should be sending that to the league office...it was that bad.

The game was lost on the 5 possessions when Rudock misfired all over the field with a 24-7 lead...and either didn't throw it or overthrew it. It was terrible.

Enough with blaming the officials, please. The blame for the loss falls squarely on the shoulders of the coaches and players.

Jake doesn't target a wide open KMM for the easiest touchdown he could ever throw, and over throws a couple other potential touchdowns. Heck he almost missed a wide open Canzeri on their last touchdown. Can't forget his turnover in the red zone either.

How about Nebraska's punt return for a touchdown? Or how about how the defense allowed multiple Nebraska receivers to get behind them for riduculously simple touchdowns?

Don't even get me started on the genius of Kurt and allowing Jake to play the entire game in the first place or the idiotic playcalling. But let's dwell on a couple calls that didn't go our way... They had absolutely no impact on the meltdown.

I'm pretty sure some of you don't read so well. I think most of the posters aren't blaming the officials for the loss, but saying there was some terrible officiating in the game...a couple at critical moments. Most of us have a very good understanding of where the game was lost, and the officials were the least of the problems.

Let me say this slowly "the officials didn't lose the game for Iowa"....the team beat themselves by making too many mistakes and our QB couldn't throw it in the ocean for a 15 minute stretch, among a few other reasons.
