Duffmans PT leage observations

I'm not quite sure what was wrong about my other observations, I mean it was in the OT forum and all but...

Anthony Hubbard
Anthony Hubbard is the real deal. He's a little more athletic than I thought he was on first glance. He had a very nice dunk on a lob play near the end of the first half. He pulls down man size rebounds, and is absolutely relentless driving to the hoop. I have no doubts that he will be a minimum of a 10-5-3 guy from day one with potential to be 15-8-5. There will be games this year where he absolutely takes over and dominates.

Anthony Hubbard is not a gifted shooter. He will struggle to shoot above 60% from the line, and will not be a threat from behind the arc. His position will likely be a “point forwardâ€. He can play the 3 all day long and run the show from that position when Bryce needs a breather.

Anthony Hubbard’s new best friend is Matt Gatens. Matt consistently drew the other teams best defender. As long as Hubbard is in the game that will no longer be the case. Matt is going to get a ton more open looks from behind the arc.

Wes Waspun
The more I see this kid play the more I wish it would have worked out at Iowa. He’s fun to watch and a great team player.

Olesansi
For anyone expecting him to contribute offensively this year, stop it. That’s not a dig on him, few freshman posts are ready to contribute offensively out of HS. He doesn’t really look to get involved offensively, and doesn’t command the ball. That said when he did get the ball he knocked down a turnaround from 8 and nailed a wide open set shot (he doesn’t really shoot a jumper) from 15. He also nailed all his free throws despite the fact he shoots them (and his set shot mentioned earlier) one handed.

The good news is he appears to be a willing rebounder and defender, as well as a pretty decent off ball shot blocker. He runs well and has solid size. He will help provide depth behind Brommer and Archie.

Brommer
Played a little more tonight than on Sunday, he looks like he’s working his way into shape. He was still relentless and got to the line at least a dozen times. Now if he could only find a way to knock down 2 FT’s in a row…

May and Oglseby
Nothing really new here… May pulled down lot’s of boards and Oglseby had some nice moments. Ogslesby will offer more than just a 3pt specialist. He’s got good footspeed and appears to be a smart player. I don’t expect him to light the world on fire but he could end up being a solid role player for several years to come.

Other than your chronic spelling errors, good stuff.

Agree with your assessment of Hubbard 100%, but I think once we hit the regular season, definitely the big ten, Gatens won't draw doubles. He is drawing doubles in PTL because of the attention he garners locally (not merited IMO unless you are worried about the perimeter). Sonnen and others took him out of his game Sunday night and we have seen what happens when big ten defenders play tight D on him.

Also agree on Washpun (unfortunately). Maybe there are behind the scene issues that caused some hesitation by the staff, but man, I really like his game and he is all about team not "me". For a kid going to a high D1 program, that is unique.

Regarding Olaseni, he might not be as skilled as Brommer offensively, but I will take his gave over Archie's right now. Olaseni, IMO, is much more active defensively, has a knack for the shot block, can draw rim on free throws and seems to genuinely want to improve. If he can learn a couple of "go to" post moves and capitalize on the tip backs, lobs, garbage hoops, he might surprise with a double digit game now and then.
