Drew Cook to Tight End

Bout time... Kinda surprised that decision wasn't made between the bowl game and the start of spring ball.. Having all of spring for him to start at TE could have helped him a ton.

I foresee a lot of 2 TE formations. With athletic TEs, Fant, Cook, Hockenson, Beyer, and the 16 other TEs on the roster, there will be some real match up problems for the defense. I like where it looks like the offense is going.

The best part of having a ton of good TEs is that they usually run the most qb friendly routes. Which will only help whichever QB gets the gig. I hope BF will go to the TEs more than last year and I think he will

Good point. I also like our chances with an opponents LBs trying to cover one of our sneaky quick TEs compared to their DBs trying to cover our limited speed at WR. Still going to need some WR or TE to run some deep routes though to keep the safeties honest.

Our gameplan back in 2013 at OSU was brilliant on offense. We came out in 3 TE sets pretty much the entire game and marched up and down the field against them.

While I'm sure there have been a few occasions where we lined up 3 TE sets since then, we have NOT seen that type of offense since. Instead it feels like we try to mesh some of what works with our KF base offense. It doesn't work when we try to marry two different ideas. We've had the past five years of evidence.

BF is talking a big game right now. Putting the best players on the field. KEEPING the best players on the field. Adapting to what our guys can do versus fitting into a scheme. Adapting to what defenses are doing instead of the same old thing.

TE has always been a strength of the program, even back in HF days. If we have 2-3 legit players there now, you get them on the field, especially with lack of experience at WR. You look at the NFL and how they use these TE nowadays, why can't we try to incorporate that?

If we use our tight ends this year and because of the talent they have we will probably see a big decrease in wr complaints. Of course this means going downfield and not the line of scrimmage passes that Greg Davis favored.

The TE roster in the fall:
Coons (RS)
Hockenson (freshman; 6'5", 243)
Beyer (freshman; 6'5", 222)
Fant (sophomore; 6'5", 232)
Vejvoda (sophomore; 6'5", 245)
Cook (sophomore; 6'5", 235)
Wieting (sophomore; 6'4", 250)
Pekar (senior; 6'4"; 252)
Wisnieski (senior; 6'5", 250)

That's a lot of TEs in the freshman/sophomore classes.
