Don't look now, but Iowa is now the #1 scoring Defense in America!

Tied with TCU at 10.2 points per game surrendered. Pretty astounding given the Hawks gave up 34 in one game. Next weekend's game is a classic matchup of great offense vs great defense. I think the Hawks win that battle but the next three weeks are going to be a helluva test.

Always found it interesting that special teams TDs, and even turnovers returned for TDs count against the defense?

Also, considering shutting out ISU and EIU wouldn't have been out of the question... yeah. This defense has been pretty good thus far. Only real breakdown came on that final Arizona offensive drive, though perhaps the EIU TD could be mentioned as well.

EDIT:
Also, didn't PSU's field goal come off of that questionable roughing the passer call?

Yeah that's always bothered me. After thinking about it, I guess you have to count special teams, because it's "special" defense, but still defense. But pick 6's shouldn't count. That's 30 points the defense didn't allow last year (35 when you include the PATs).

You also have to count 'charity' touchdowns, like the isu first team against the Hawks 3rd string. :)

Points are points no matter how they're surrendered or scored. The offense gets credit for all points scored and the defense gets blamed for all point scored. It seems fair to me.

I'm sure many teams have pick 6, 6 yard drives, kick returns and/ or 3rd string tds counting against their defense right now. Still when you consider that the 1st team Iowa D has given up - 1 real TD drive this season, it's pretty impressive no matter where it ranks.

Iowa's defense did not give up 34 points against Arizona.

The defense gets the blame for points that are scored when they're not on the field? Interesting.

I believe we havnt seen the best yet. Its still early and they are settling in. I think the middle and end of season will show us the greatness of this iron curtain. Yes i said it. BTW i just had my son Jaxton future quarterback of the iowa hawks
