In response to the question of can Iowa get a big name- in comparison to what MN did with Tubby? Dolph said money is not and will not be an issue.

Also asked if the stress got to Lick? Says absolutely over the last 3 weeks. However, Said as he and Lick sat down thursday morning that Lick was the most relaxed he had seen him in 6 months, Lick knew something was clearly up.

Dolph thinks Lick deserved one more year.

More to come....

Dolph thinks 2-3 week time frame for a new coach to be hired, closer to 2 weeks.

Also just briefly talked about keeping the recruits and that other coaches will certainly hammering them until we get a new coach in.

If other coaches are hammering them before we give a release they will be in blatant violation of NCAA rules.

Not that it would be a surprise. :)

They're signed, I don't think other coaches can hammer them...the players can initiate contact however.

If I have this wrong, someone bail me out!

Edit: Nevermind, Freddy confirmed it 3 seconds before I posted...I do still wonder if the players can contact teams though.

Sounds like the athletic department assistants and current ballplayers better communicate with them regularly.

Kenyon Murray was on right before Dolph... and a point Murray made was whoever Barta hires... absolutely has to be able to connect with the fans. Amen to that!

Very classy interviews by both Kenyon and Dolph

My choice of words was poor...he said other coaches will be "circling like vultures" and something to the effect at hammering to get at that....

And that is one reason why I would LOVE to have Pearl, he clearly has a connection with the Tenn. fan base. Can you imagine him on the I-Club circuit?

I don't know why other coaches would be hammering at our recruits. Unless you bank schollys like Lick, most schools are already filled up for 2010.

I know, but I don't understand that quote.

So he's basically saying "It is an issue, but it isn't an issue"?

I guess that makes sense in a way...

I think the point is that if you decide to fire a coach after only three years and pay a buyout of $2.4 million, you are prepared to make an even bigger investment in the next guy coming in.

Sort of like a business -- you spend $2 million to tear down an inefficient part of your plant in order to clear the way to erect a modern $5 million addition that you project will generate another $8 to $10 million in revenue a year.

Not quite a perfect analogy. But hopefully you get the point.
