Does Illini winning at PSU give you a good vibe? - it does me

Penn St has a couple really good guards? Are their forwards and centers any good?

I have to think this hawk team maybe plays looser on the road.

Beating the Illini on the road gives me some good vibes about these upcoming road games.

Our size matches up good with indiana and the hawks need to shut down farrell.

9-4 by next Saturday nite would look awful nice

The Hawks match up well with their big guys. The key will be the guard play of Iowa and Penn State. I say Iowa wins it and it will not be that close.

Don't let PSU hang around, especially at home. They have just enough good players to steal one away at the end. Get up 15-20 points and they will wilt.

Illinois was ranked at one time and is no longer in the cellar alone and I contend are > pudue, psu and NW.

What I like is that MICH will have to travel to Champaign and have to play an Illinois team that has regained it's confidence, and if their shooting challenged guys can get happy in their friendly confines, like they for a couple times v Iowa, this Illinois team will get the unexpected upset over MICH, giving MICH their 6th loss

A 9-4 record would be nice but it is unachievable since Iowa does not play again until then. But Illinois beating PSU on the road gives me a little hope Iowa can do it.

This game did not worry me previously. It doesn't worry me now. Iowa has a week to prepare and is a much better team than Penn State.

The only thing that worries me is Iowa comes out half asleep, that arena can do that to ya. Every prayer Newbill and Frazer throw up drops and Iowa is fighting for their lives all day. Iowa needs to bury them from the get go and keep their foot on the gas.

Penn State is very perimeter-oriented. Their only post scoring seems to come from Donovon Jack, who also shoots 3s and fouls a lot. Otherwise they have Dickerson and Travis, who are not scoring threats, Brandon Taylor, a forward who mostly just shoots 3s, and a bunch of guards. As for Indiana, we need to keep Vonleh off the offensive glass. They inexplicably neglect to give him the ball in their offense, so denying him offensive rebounds will keep him from getting too involved and make them try to beat us with Stan Robinson and Troy Williams. I have good vibes for both games.

If PSU is that perimeter-oriented, then what I DON'T want to see is Iowa playing a lot of zone. I'd say mostly man-to-man and force PSU to either try to go inside, or shoot a lot of contested 3's.

As for Illinois winning @PSU, I guess it makes me think a little less of PSU. But I can't forget that PSU also won @OSU pretty recently, so I am not taking this game lightly. But that doesn't matter just as long as Iowa stays focused.

If Iowa loses, this would be our first bad loss of the season.

I had a good vibe before the Illinois win. I think Iowa will begin to roll now. Fran's got the rotation tightened up, the team has remembered how to shoot, and our guards are playing at a very high level.

Onward and upward!

Althought I don't think PSU is a great 3 point shooting team and I think we can get away with some zone, I really like our man D.

Mike can match up with Frazier and Dev can match up with Newbill.

Feed the Beast Woody inside on offense!!!

Half asleep only because the only noise that can be heard in Bryce Jordan is the sound of crickets cause no one ever shows up.

Yep, Newbill and Frazier are the big scoring threats (averaging 18 and 16 per game). Need to focus on them. They are on the road Wednesday night at Indiana so hopefully the Hoosiers can wear them down a bit. They are not a deep team.

PSU has been starting true frosh Woodward(from Minnesota) at pg, with Frazier and Newbill on the wings, with Taylor and Jack down low. This is a small, quick group that does score from the arc and not in the paint.

They bring in 7fter Dickerson and Travis off the bench ,along with John Johnson at guard.
It is a nice rotation, and I am very nervous about this game. They had their first off shooting nite in awhile vs the Illini and that allowed the Illini to steal one, but PSU has been one of the hotter teams in the league before yesterday....if they are shooting their norm, we will be lucky to get out of there with a win.

If the best the Hawks can hope for is to be 'lucky' at PSU then their aim is a little low.

Penn State hasn't tried to score or shoot against our defense. They haven't tried to stop our offense. No one brings the match up issues to the table that Iowa brings. If they start Newbill and Frazier at the wings those guys will be guarding Marble and either Basabe or White. We will likely have more layups and dunks than they have 3s...
