While fans are wringing their hands over DJK's personal tragedy (of his own making), the waste of tremendous talent, the possible jeopardy to a NFL career, is there a chance that his suspension/removal will actually help the team as it prepares for the Insight Bowl and the 2011 schedule?
The season-long sideshow that was DJK is over. The coaches no longer have to deal with that distraction. If he was a disruptive force on the field and in the locker room (and I don't know whether he was), he's no longer in a position to do that. There's now an opportunity for other players to step up and show what they can do.
Handled properly, coaches can use this to reinforce the message to the herd about what will and will not be tolerated.
From a team standpoint, this can be a unifying event. Hopefully it will be.
