I was trying to find info and could not can make a guess but did not know if anyone knew exact number?

Really not long, compared to what a long stint is for some teams. Remember, we dropped out after the UNI game last year, and didn't get back in until we beat PSU. So counting the bowl game, it's 13 weeks. Most good teams will do that just in one season.

Iowa was ranked in 2009 from weeks 4-14 and also the final rankings. So that is a total of 12 weeks worth of new polls. They've also been ranked in the pre-season poll and the first five weeks of this season. So they have been ranked in 18 straight polls that have been released.

Should be more. Still a joke that we "dropped out" after winning the UNI game. Should be 20 for that, and then dating back to the 2008 PSU game we are around 23-24?

Iowa started off at 18 last year, so you think after blocking two FG's to beat a FCS school that Iowa should have dropped only 2 spots?

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume this is sarcasm.

Sorry guys, let me clarify. I meant we should not have dropped out after the UNI game at all. So what I was trying to say is that we should have been ranked 20 weeks in a row right now just in the last 2 seasons (all 14 weeks last year and the 6 so far this year), not that we should have dropped to 20th after the UNI game. :)

My follow-up question to that was so how far back were we ranked in 2008? I was thinking the PSU game got us into the top 25, so that is where the "23-24" (weeks in a row) comment came into play.

I will definitely try to be more clear in future posts. That certainly was not my best work.

Iowa essentially lost the UNI game. No one will tell you that faster than the players and staff. Special teams saved the day, but there's no way it should've been that close to begin with. Ranked teams don't need insane, record-setting flukes to beat FCS teams.

Iowa deserved to drop out of the rankings.

IIRC, we still weren't ranked after the PSU game in 2008. We were 6-4 after that win, after all.

I respectfully disagree. You drop out when you lose IMO.

Yeah, true. It is all coming back to me. We lost the previous week at Illinois. Good call. After that Illinois loss we did not lose a game for over a full calendar year until the NW game last year. WOW!

Depending on when the bye week was last year(I forget), I think we are at 14 or 15 conescutive weeks now going into the bye week. I think we will be at 15 or 16 going into the Michigan game.

Nice work. I don't think we had a bye week last year though? If so, I have forgotten. It seems like we haven't really had a bye week for a few years, but I know that is wrong. I love the bye week this week, and I love playing Thanksgiving weekend. Twelve days between now and the next game seems like too much though!

Thanks and btw I think this bye week came at a pretty good time for us. We very well could be playing 3 ranked teams in a row so this is a pretty good time to get a little break right before we hit the real meat of our schedule. Out of our 6 upcoming games...5 of them should be ranked. This is great because if we run the table we may have a small outside chance of getting back into the larger picture(NC) again. I'm not holding my breath for that though.
