Do you follow any other team closely?

I've been a die-hard, albeit, Tavern Hawk since I was 5 years old. I have only missed watching a handful of Iowa basketball games in 25 years, even when we've been down, even when I moved to Denver for 4 years, and that will never change. I go out of my way to watch the games even when they aren't televised. Always will be a Hawk, and I care about it enough that I invest a lot of time and some money (going to games, donations, Iclubs etc) into it.

You get the gist.

All that said, I've lived in the Omaha area most of my life and I also follow Creighton basketball really closely. Their program is built on Iowa kids. While that drives me crazy a little bit (Iowa missing out on some gems), I still find myself intrigued with their program and I tend to try and catch every game of theirs that I can. I typically attend 3 or 4 games a season and I get exposed to all the teams they face as well. I don't consider myself a Creighton fan, but I live among many and most of my friends are.

So, the question is, Do you follow any other teams closely? Like, attend games? Watch every one that you can? Should I feel dirty for doing this? I don't own a single piece of CU merchandise, but I do watch em. I feel like I get a better understanding of what else is out there beyond the Big Ten and it exposes and helps me understand college basketball a lot more if I didn't.

What other hoops teams do you follow?

I'm a die hard Hawkeye and juco fan. Living in Burlington I've been an SCC season ticket holder since I was in high school. I tend to find myself following the players that left and went on to the D1 level and generally watch all games to follow their career if possible. Kind of a passion, but at the juco level it truly has a "home town" atmosphere and you get to know the guys. Alot like following a highschool program, with the exception of better talent and more D1 players ending up at the D1 level.

illinois state -- sort of pay attention to basketball because I grew up in normal, went to their camps, have good memories on the donewald-bender-stallings teams, got my m.a. there. maybe check in on them two or three times during the season.

south carolina. sort of pay attention in a rubbernecking fashion just because it's amusing to see how many ways they can self-destruct despite decent recruiting and playing in the SEC. spent eight years in columbia, five of which were during my ph.d., but gamecock fans tend to make cyclone fans look like rhodes scholars. just can't go there. who gives a crap.

its hawks, hawks, hawks for me. I live and die for basketball season.

I follow other Big 10 teams but primarily because it impacts Iowa. I cheer pretty hard for a lot of the Big 10 teams come NCAA time. I don't have any posts on anything other than HN so...

You have over 90 posts on here. Any posts elsewhere InGood? If the answer is no then you don't have to feel "too" dirty IMO.

I've always followed Kansas and Iowa State fairly closely. Since moving to Waco, I've started to follow Baylor a little more.

Edit: I also follow Big Ten hoops, though no one team too much more than the others.

I follow UNI just because a classmate of my boys plays for them....other than that no one else really...However, I always like to see how Arizona does.....haven't really got a good look at any of their games...just not convinced they're the #2 team in the land..jmo

No, this is my only message board (long time lurker, newisher?? poster) and I don't even actively "cheer" for CU. I just follow em cause they are local and most of my friends are big fans and I score free tickets all the time. I pretty much know their entire roster, how they sub and what not but I don't find myself ever "cheering" them on, rather just observing cause I like basketball. I do like to play up the fact to my friends that their success has been built on the backs of Iowa kids. There is a ton of Iowa blood in that program and there has been since Dana Altman got arrived.

Nothing wrong with pulling for Creighton and they are doing well.

I follow the Goofers cause I live in MN, always like to see them lose unless playing OSU.
Honest to goodness though, there are more Hawk fans in the Rochester area than Goof fans. Goof fans just do not exist due to the pro sports angle up here. People don't care about them.

I follow ISU closely and pull for them. The internet and the inferiority complex of many Clone fans have probably made me less of a fan than I was years ago. I spend some time on CyFan, but no matter what I post some Clone fan takes offense to it because I have Hawk in my name. I also follow UNI and Drake. SHC turned me off on Drake a little when she let Phelps stick around for 5 years. I went to St. Louis in 2010 to watch UNI and have occasionally drove to Cedar Falls. I grew up with 2 TV stations and the Big Peach so I had little else to do than pull for in state teams.

I was just giving you a hard time...wanted you to feel welcome being a newish poster and all!

Don't feel dirty, pal. I've been to a number of Tennessee games this year, but I always put the Hawks first and can go to great lengths to watch them. I see no problem with being a fan of both, they've never seemed mutually exclusive to me.

Anyone who follows another team closely obviously is not a true Hawkeye fan. 100% of my sport time is completely devoted to all that is hawkeye. I can not and will not condone any infidelity when it comes to the university of Iowa athletics. You all should be ashamed of yourselves and should confess your sins to Father Fran and then pray for salvation. As sinners, you will be forced to spend eternity in Cyclone he'll once you meet St Nile Kinnick at the pearly gates. I will continue to wait for the Hawkeye rapture which will no doubt occur after we win the NCAA tourney in march. I'm a born again franatic and know my fate. Do you?

I live in Omaha and like to see Creighton do well cause its kinda good for the city, exposure, etc. They are fun to watch, McDermott was the coach at Wayne State when I went there and he's a solid dude...his son can ball. I don't really follow anyone but the Hawks though.

I follow Wichita St pretty closely and try to watch their games when I can. Dont make it a point to watch every minute of every game like I do the Hawks. But I do flow them closely.
Its mostly because one of the assistant coaches is from my hometown and was a high school hoops star when I was in 7th or 8th grade. That and my family is pretty close with their family. Really good people. I also worked at the restaurant they own in town for a number of years too.

I'm a Lute fan so I watched Arizona a lot during his time there and still do occasionally. I was happy to see him win in 1997 and was a full on band-wagon fan when they were playing Duke in 2001 final. Damn they had a great team that year. Crazy to think that had Luke Recker not been in that terrible car accident in spring 1999, he would have been on that team. He red-shirted there in the fall 1999 semester before transferring to Iowa.

That being said, they ended Iowa's seasons in the 1988 and 1996 NCAA tournaments. Safe to say I wasn't rooting for them those days.

Michigan, because I live close to Ann Arbor and it my wife's favorite team. I go to the Iowa-UM game in Crisler when it is there. Also, I just love college basketball so we go to as many as 10 home UM games a year. If you haven't been to Crisler, go great place to watch a game. I would just like to see Iowa win while attending...is that too much to ask for?

I used to follow UNI and have been to many of their games. But after the last time Iowa played them in the McLeod Center I have not been back.
