Do we want MSU or UM to win next week?

Should we want Michigan State or Michigan to win their game next week? I am leaning toward pulling for Michigan, in hopes that Michigan State might start their yearly downward spiral, and that Iowa might knock-off an undefeated Michigan team in two weeks.

I'm pulling for Michigan State. If they don't win, it probably means that they were not able to stop Robinson. If they can't stop him, I'm quite a bit more worried about our game (I'm operating under the assumption that Greg Jones will be used as a spy. If he can't keep Robinson under control, then I don't know who can.).

From a national perspective, Mich would be a bigger win because well there Mich and they have a heisman candidate.

If you're an Iowa fan, you want Michigan to win handly, and for Denard Robinson to have what seems to be his typical 200-200 yard performance against MSU (kid is an absolute freak, huh?). You don't want him limping into the Iowa game, because you want your front 4/5 to show the nation that kid can be stopped. You don't want a possible win against Michigan dulled because they are "bruised up" do you (you'd never hear the end of it from the national pundits. On the flipside, the nation wouldn't hear the end of it if Iowa can stop him)??

If Iowa can beat Michigan with DR at 100%, probably puts you right back in the conversation.

Just my opinion, I guess, but that's what I would want if ISU was in the same position.

This is my thinking as well. I want Iowa to beat a full strength Michigan, no excuses. I believe that a decisive win in Ann Arbor on their homecoming would be what the Hawks will need to have to be able to claw our way back into the top ten.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I REALLY want MSU to win in a physical game that comes down to the wire. Firstly, if MSU wins then we're going to get at least 3 ranked opponents in a row. 4 if Wisconsin can stay ranked. I'd rather beat two teams in the teens than one in single digits and one who's unranked. Secondly, if it's a physical slugfest, their whole team will be battered and bruised coming to Kinnick. Third, if it's an emotional game that comes down to the wire, they'll be emotionally worn out for our game too, like VT for the James Madison game.

I think we want MSU in this one. I honestly think we our out of the NT race (too much going against us and an offensive coaching strategy that will not allow for it). We want wins (we obviously aren't going to do it very sexy if we have the chance and it is not required of us) so we want Michigan emotionally down for our game. We get MSU at home, so that should be an advantage to us.

Take MSU in this one. We need the best possible chance to get wins in the Big Ten so we can win the conference and get to the Rose Bowl.

I agree with you here. I want MSU. Just in case we do lose in 2 weeks (crazy, I know). Michigan would still have a loss at home, which is huge. As you said, we get MSU at home, so we will take care of them Oct 30.

This.

However, i just can't see myself rooting for michigan during the conference season. Bowl game? Yes. Conference? No. I get it when Michigan is good its better for the conference as a whole.......Just can't do it......rooting for MSU.

It's a NO BRAINER.

We want Michigan to win... throw out the stats, throw out the score.

We want Michigan to move up 10 spots after they get at least anither 100 and 100 from DR.

Michigan State, next to Iowa, are the two most physical, toughest teams in the Big Ten.

M State will pound DR, barely lose and allow Iowa to move more than 1 or 2 spots in the polls after they knock DR out of the game and win by a couple of touchdowns.

M State, on the other hand, will be a much greater handfull in 4 weeks.

MidnightBlueSix, MSU plays Illinois at home and NW on the road between playing Michigan and Iowa. They have a good chance of winning both of those, so if they lose this week they will be 7-1 against Iowa and will more than likely be ranked.

MSU doesn't play Ohio State so Michigan has the tougher schedule this year. I want Michigan to win a close one in which Denard was at least somewhat contained to give Iowa the blueprint for stopping him.

I'm rooting for Michigan, because MSU has an easy schedule after they play Iowa. If MSU beats Michigan, there is a good chance that Iowa would be there only loss and thus could knock us out of the Big 10 race if we have two losses.

If we have two losses we have no shot at the Big Ten title anyway, IMO. I doubt OSU, Wisconsin, or MSU will lose 3 games in conference. My opinion is based on the assumption that we run the table from this point onward.

Wisconsin will be lucky to finish 5-3.

As far as the original question, I don't think it really matters. What I want is for MSU to give Iowa the blueprint for slowing down Robinson. If they should happen to soften him up for the Hawks, that would be cool with me as well.

Let's be the ones to give Michigan it's first loss and make Robinson take a step back in the Heisman race.

Hadn't thought of that. Good point!

I don't like to root for Michigan except bowls (and only bowls), they're Michigan. Further, my fear is that if they win they will be gaining that much more belief and confidence in themselves (poor secondary and all), thus making it a very difficult game for their next opponent in THEIR house.

That being said, I will have to pull for an undefeated Mich to be our next victim. I want us to have the "kill" and get the accolades...because conversely, a Mich loss means a dangerous MSU could be coming into IC with a full steam and undefeated record in 3 weeks. That game will be tough enough and we don't need them (MSU) thinking they are playing for the BT title!
We can still beat a very solid 7-1 MSU who will be ranked mid to low teens.

Further, if we should be in a situation where we do lose a game, there could be a pack of 7-1 (conf) teams at the end. Mich will lose at least 2 (us and ?); where as MSU has the type of team that will need an additional loss and they match well with (just)N'western and PSU and do not play tOSU.

Unfortunately, I personally think we need Meeshegan to win this one. (bring on a full strength D. Rob, but tire out the rest of the team).
