Do we still think this staff treats every game the same?

Who still likes to believe this staff prepares for every game the same? Obviously this staff is able to prepare the team and gets them up for the big games but has a serious problem motivating their players for the lower half of the Big Ten. Does Iowa's coaching staff have a problem relating to the players? Are they able to fire the players up or are the players only getting fired up when the big boys are coming? I makes me nervous that we no longer can play the "No Respect" card and it appears to be showing.

Can I step back from the ledge or do you feel this is the beggining of mediocre teams for the norm with an occasional above average team.

When reading your post, I actually found myself thinking of the Alford era in basketball when it comes to playing to the level of competition. I remember our hoops team going out to Maui one year and beating Louisville and Texas (both in the Top 10) in back-to-back games, and started 13-1, with the lone loss to N. Carolina. Then losing at home in the Big 10 opener against a poor Michigan team. Or in 2006, beating Indiana, OSU and Illinois in three straight games, then to follow that up with a lackluster effort in a near upset against a lowly Purdue team (pre Matt Painter).

Our football team seems the same way. Just think of the last two years.. Like last year, UNI, Arkansas St were near defeats at home. Then we win @PSU, take OSU to overtime in the shoe, etc. This year we crush MSU, play toe-to-toe with OSU again, but lose to Minny, NW and only a dropped TD pass saved us from losing to Indiana.

Could it be that the players get themselves up for the big games, and don't have the same fire for the lesser opponents? I know if I was a player, it would be much easier to be pumped for OSU than for Minnesota. I view it as a coaching staff's job to motivate their team as well. If the players come out flat, find a way to light a fire. I'm not convinced our coaching staff does this.

Thanks for the reply 77. Usually I don't post but have been on here for quite a long time. It's sad that I have only begun posting since things have turned negative but I think its like therapy for some of us who just don't understand when it seems like things could be so easily fixed.

I say put Doyle in charge of motivation during the game, he seems to be the only one fired up for every play in every game.

I would agree I think it's the staff that needs to shake the cobwebs out of their ears. Maybe many of them are just getting too damn old. I don't know anyone who stays at one place for 12 years anymore unless they just don't have ambition.
