Do the problems Tennessee had this year make Pearl more likely?

Do the problems Tenn had make Pearl more likely to be interested, less likely, or are they a non factor?

Good god I hope you are kidding!

Pearl is a pipe dream for Iowa fans it isn't going to happen.

I think you're completely wrong. There are few places Pearl would leave TN for... Iowa is one of them. He's said he will always consider Iowa. The problem is coming up with $5 million for the 2 buyouts necessary... not in getting Pearl to come here. I think he would.

When Pearl's name came up in our post Alford bball coaching search, it did not take very long (a few minutes IIRC) for his public rebuke/denial to be broadcast on the airways.

I agree, Hoffa or anyone who says Pearl is a pipe dream doesn't have anything to back it up with. No one has a clue what's going on, but nothing wrong with throwing his name out there.

I still don't think Iowa has any shot at Pearl, but I do think at the time Alford left Pearl was extremely grateful for Tennessee being the program that finally got him back on the big stage, and didn't want to ditch them after only one season. He also had a potential final four team coming back the following season, and that's pretty hard to walk away from.

I don't doubt that but as you pointed out problem #1 is money, buyouts on both ends and his salary that's a hell of a lot of money.

Sure Pearl would be interested but why come to Iowa when he has it so well at UT? They love him there, he is getting paid, and they play in a below average conference so going to the tourney every year is a hell of a lot easier then it would be here.

Don't get me wrong I would love the guy to be the coach I just don't think for a number of reasons that it's possible or realistic.

Pearl has lots of energy, and knows the game, but something is too "loose" with his energy and personality for my take. I felt this way prior to the problems that surfaced with 3 of his players this year BTW.

I don't think it's really a factor at all Duff. Unless something is going on behind the scenes that we don't know about(i.e. administration and faculty are getting down on him for lack of character in his kids, ect.). Considering that he has doubled revenue for Tennessee's basketball program since he got there, I have a hard time believing he is feeling a whole lot of pressure at all. I mean...it's Tennessee. Look at what they allowed Kiffin to do with their football team. Win at all cost.

I was just going to say that. IMO it's a non-factor. He hadled the situation well, fans love him, he's winning.

I think his recent divorce will have a larger (more positive) bearing on him coming here than the recent player incidents. Those were handled swiftly and competently and I don't think anyone associated with the Tenn program think less of him because of it.

Just like how Lickliter was never going to be fired this year? How many times did we read/hear that all season long?

Never is a long, long time. I'm not saying it's likely that we get Pearl, but not impossible.

I don't think Pearl is feeling any pressure to get out of Tennessee, though.

Interesting... his son is playing for him so it sounds like his family is important to them... I would imagine he would want to be around his kids, would they want to come to Iowa? Would the son playing with him transfer as well?

Anyone worried about Pearl getting out of TN alive if he did decide to leave. The lynch mob running around Knoxville looking for Lane Kiffin when he jumped to USC was bizzare.

He's still the coach right now isn't he? :)
