38 points allowed, 450 yards allowed, Iowa "covering" like they were middle schoolers, and the awful big 12 tackling attempts. How many tackles did Montgomery break today? All around pathetic showing.
It seemed like the defensive backs didn't know where they were supposed to be half the time. It was concerning how often ISU receivers were WIDE open. Of course, it didn't help that we couldn't get any pressure on Park, which is also concerning.
Sometimes shit happens and each game has its own narrative. Defense probably not as good as Wyoming game indicated nor as bad as today. Things tend to regress to the mean, so we're probably somewhere in between...
If I was coach our DBs would run extra laps for all the blown coverages + all the Pass int penalties.
Been a long time since our D cost us the game, thankfully we pulled it out somehow.
PS - my wife says I need to lower my expectations...and my blood pressure during the games.
Iowa teams tend to get better as the season goes and I think ISU and the spread offenses are always a tough matchup for the Hawks. Plus playing in Ames is always tough. We overcame a 10 penalties.
So no, not a good showing by the D but I'm not going to say it's a bad Defense just yet.
I think this D will still be good enough to keep us in games now that we may actually have on offense that can keep up.
