It's going to be addressed. Is it something that white America is mostly blind to, yes. In the end, there is NO EXCUSE for racism. You can't yell it at a kid to make them tougher. I'm uncertain on how "turning your hat around and pulling your pants halfway down and talking a certain way" should be perceived but, its in poor taste. I never had a coach have to act that way. I think its something that needs to be addressed. I'm not sure it calls for firings and suspensions. It sounds like a call for "clean it up" and "be sensitive" and certainly create fair and equal conditions for all. But the USMC isn't going to start letting kids dress how they want. Uniform is uniform. A lot of the issues im hearing are about having to act or dress a certain way. Kids have an opportunity to do research, talk to former players, especially at Iowa. They get paired with current players. This stuff doesn't ever get mentioned? Maybe it doesn't. American society can't be "made to order." There are certain things/rules/traditions/policies you have to adhere to in order to be a Hawkeye. Being insulted by a weight coach isn't something they have to put up with...that being said, no one ever brought it up after leaving? Racist claims. No one? All of American society should take a look and inventory themselves. Listen is the key here. Listen to the concerns, address the concerns, change what needs to be change. Communication of why we do things is important. It might lead to questions or concerns. If answered honestly, it might lead to kids leaving the program early. At least it will be transparent. A kid can say, no, this isn't the place for me.
