Do all of our recruits have to be projects?

I went to the OS to look at our class now with the addition of Nelson. When I look at each player and their respective position I noticed that every single one of these guys will be required to pack between 20-50lbs. Is there a reason we can't just go recruit guys that already have the size so they can play right away? I randomly picked Kentucky's board to cross reference since I figured we were about similar with regards to output on the field. I see they have some OL that are 285 and 320 already and our two twin brothers (largest on our board) are 267 and 250. Our running back that is from FLA is listed at 5-10'' and 180 while theirs is 6' and 205. To me why does every damn recruit have to be some project? What's wrong getting players that don't have to put 35lbs on their frame and then figure out how to be fast? It just seems like there's got to be a better way to go about things with regards to getting the right fit. Don't tell me coming to Kentucky is way easier to recruit to either. They can't hold a candle to our facilities, tradition and history.

The most recent commit, Nelson is the definition of a project. 6'6" 210 lb defensive lineman? Kid might develop into a good player, but is very undersized for a B1G recruit. Hawks lost out on Raquan Williams to MSU and that stung. Hawks have two other defensive end commits who have no other D1 offers, both around 210 lbs. Also notice they don't have defensive backs committed so far, a real area of need.

Iowa's recruiting has taken a pretty decent decline in recent years. Even a couple a years ago, Kirk was at least getting a few decent recruits. I actually do like the Paulsen twins and think they'll be good as well as Jake Newborg who may end up on defense. Outside of those guys I don't see anybody that'll be ready to step in and contribute....hope I'm wrong.

I don't mind having projects as recruits. One problem is when there are to many of them, but the biggest problem, as we saw this year, is when they play as freshmen or sophomores.

Right, Jewell, Bower just aren't quite there (honestly not sure they ever will be). It's got to be hard putting on 20-30lb of weight and then be asked to run faster than you did at your prior weight. It just seems like every recruit anymore we get is a project. And Nelson is the prime example. At 6'6'' he's got great size but 215lb? At this rate he may see the field his junior year or if he does get in prior to then he will be just getting man handled because he's undersized and has to win with technique alone. The rest of the teams have caught up to our way of doing business and technique is helpful but size and speed are possibly more important.

Yes. They do.

They need to be projects

or

from the projects.

Iowa is a little heavy on the top one.
