Divisions for Big Ten Basketball?

If you were to play each Division member twice and each team once from the other division it would be a 19 game conference season. The conference games would need to start immediately after Christmas. In a conference tournament only the 1 and 2 seeds would get a first round bye. Maybe there are some other ideas that you think are better.

I know in my heart that these days are long gone, but I always thought the only fair way to determine the true conference champion was to play a round robin schedule.

They'll likely do a double bye for the tournament, so the top 4 have to win 3 for the championship whereas the bottom 4 have to win 5 games to win it all. We'll play five teams twice and the other 8 once. This is going by the SEC system, which I don't really like. I like eyekwah's suggestion better.

I wouldn't mind using the Big East philosophy where not all teams make the conference tourney. I know the Big East had like 16 teams when they did it but I wouldn't mind capping the B1G tourney at 12 teams when the league expands to 14.

And the way the article reads seems like the Hawks got maybe a break on their single plays. Indiana and purdue only once is about as good as you could ask for from the teams we had a chance of playing only once. Honestly, I wouldn't be sad to play PSU only once as well.

Playing MSU and OSU both twice next year will do wonders for the RPI.

I want Wisconsin twice. Fran has a good handle on what Bo tries to do in a game and knows how to beat him. They also will be the best of those other 4 schools that could potentially be 1 game opponents.

PSU is going to be tough next year. Heck, they were way better than their record this year without their best player. Me no likey.

They play hard and their coach never lost the team despite their poor record. The lack of an inside presence will keep them toward the bottom of the standings but they will be in games and beat some people IMO. I think they will have a winning record at home in the Big 10.

I like this idea far more than having a "double bye" scenario where some teams have to win just 3 games to win the conference tournament, and other teams have to win 5. I like giving everyone a chance, but if you finish 13th or 14th in a conference that big, then IMO you really deserve to stay home anyway.
