DISTRACTION: Who Gets Drafted?

The season is toast so we might as well have a little fun speculating.

Let's hear your choices for both.

Drafted:

Jewell

Jackson
(if he declares)

Wadley - Not near as high as people think

Welsh - Tough year didn't help

Free Agent Possibilities:

Bazata - On the small side but had a decent enough year to at least get a tryout. Mitch King was the same size so take that how you will.

Niemann - Same as Bazata

I would also say Boettger but Achilles injuries are pretty devastating and I don't know where he's at as far as making football movements.

I don't think Wadley will be taken all that high either especially if he measures up at the draft combine under 200 lbs. But if he goes to the right team he could do pretty well. That Thompson for the Redskins is pretty similar in size and style to Wadley. There's certainly value in him so I'd be shocked if he wasn't a 4th rounder or better.
Jewell should be a top 3 inside LB taken. If they could put about 10 more LBs of muscle on him it'd probably help him a ton at the next level. But with guys like Kirksey and Hitchens doing their thing I can't see how Jewell can't either. He may not win the underwear Olympics but he's put so much solid tape out there more then a few coaches will fall in love with him.

I'd put $$ on Wadley eventually playing WR in the NFL.

Jewell is an inch shorter and the same weight as Luke Kuechly, so even though he’s on the small end it can still be done. He’s obviously not as fast but I think he has the mental part in the bag. Greenway modestly said Jewell is better than he was, which tells a lot. I’ll be honest, you don’t hear a lot of college LBs speak as intelligently and maturely as Jewell in front of the press. That’s going to do wonders for him.

I think he would've kicked ass had he played P5 ball. Are there many FCS running backs that get drafted being on the smaller stage? I honestly don't know.

It seems like you hear of a lot of runners, Dbacks receivers etc from small Div 1 teams and FCS that make the pros, even if just for a year or two. Many of these unknown guys are free agents, hustle and make a squad, then get their break. Many times it only last a year or two there are so many good players.

There definitely aren’t the huge career guys anymore like Walter Payton or Emmitt Smith. The best RBs today seem to have about : moster years and then they’re done. I think part of it is that as defenders get bigger, faster, and stronger, the human body (I.e. the running back) can’t automatically take the equivalent amount of punishment.

The draft is always a bit of a crap shoot, but I agree, Wadley likely won't be drafted high - more likely somewhere in the middle rounds. I very highly doubt he ends up at WR. More likely, he will need to carve out a niche as a 3rd down back +/- PR.

Josey's success is a hard one to predict. The NFL right now is placing a premium on smaller, more athletic, LBs that can play in space. If Josey's combine numbers are poor, that will hurt his draft stock, regardless of his off-the-charts character, instincts and production. He's probably going to need to run below 4.7 or so to stay in the upper rounds.

If JJ performs well at the combine, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go in the top 10. Teams are always looking for shut-down corners, especially the ones with length.

I actually think Niemann has a good chance to be drafted. The combine will be big for him.

No possible way JJ can go pro, Kirk said he's not ready lol

#Sarcasm

According to the folks at the Butkus awards, his stats are meaningless, and he doesn't have "warrior mentality" to play through injuries (seriously, that is one component of the award).

In the slot, anyway. Out wide? I don't see him having the strength to fight through initial contact, and his top-end speed isn't "classic" WR.

I see him as third-down slot guy, with obvious possibilities in the return game. In fact, Butler's injury may just have had the most impact there, as staff probably didn't want to risk him in returns with Butler unavailable as backup.

Butler won't get drafted. Jewell, and Jackson will. Wadley depends on what he does at the combine. If he doesn't put up big numbers, then I bet he might be undrafted free agent. He's not going to be taken as a running back, and really hasn't had much experience catching the ball.

You don't think Butler has a chance?

I pretty much disagree with everything you said about Wadley. He will absolutely be drafted. He's the prototypical third down back. He hasn't caught a ton of passes, but that's not because he can't it's because our coaching staff is full of morons. He has big time playmaking ability. He's fast, shifty, and has good vision. He will be a 4th or 5th round pick most likely.

Wadley would make an excellent 3rd down back for the right team.
He's very similar in size with Darren Sproles, who has had a fantastic NFL career.

Well, one came from Clinton, IA , and played at UNI: David Johnson. Here's a quick list of others:
Isaiah Crowell, Mike Tolbert, Terrance West and Charcandrick West. (not sure about being drafted, but they are among the top 50 RB's listed for fantasy football)
