Disappointing Season

This slow fade has been horrible. Reality is this team has only 1 respectable win - upset of Mich at home.

No way I would have thought the season would go anything like this.

This team hasn't improved much.

I think Uthoff is the key - one of the best players on the team and McCaffery doesn't know how to use him

Uthoff has not been good in the B10. Too weak with the ball, very loose handles, doesn't finish around the rim, not sure how you want him to be used.

Up to this point during the regular season for sure....

- Regular season was there for the taking
- McCabe's antics
- Fran losing the team a bit after the home win vs Michigan
- Losing to inferior teams
- Losing all those home games
- Reputation for not finishing

Reminds me a great deal of the 2010 FB teams....ton of talent, big (reasonable expectations), disappointing finale. Pity.

Well boo fricken hoo. We're going to the dance!!! Enjoy. The only BAD loss in my opinion was Minney so just chill out. Gees.

I don't think this season is disappointing. It reminds me of a Tom Davis era season. It could be much worse and has (Lick ball wasn't that long ago) but left wondering if it could have been much better.

With 1 game to go I doubt even the folks in Vegas had odds on Nebraska being 4th in the standings with the "potential Final Four" Hawkeyes a disappointing 5th.

This season has been disappointing as far as what could have been, but in the end the Hawks are still going to the dance and there's still a BTT to be played. The fact that we all care about bball so much right now is a compliment to what this team has done.

I've gone to Vegas every year for the last 7 for March Madness and this will be the first time I'll actually get to watch Iowa play out there. There's something to be said about that

Could have been better, and 4 of the last 5 have been rough. But not a disappointing season. We are dancing after 8 years. Expectations got very high, but we are ending with about the W/L I predicted. Still things to play for. Beat Illinois.

Ohio state, Nebraska, and minn were decent wins. At least two of the three tournament teams. Xavier and notre dame middle area win. ND would have been better if they didn't suffer an injury on top player. Also if utep didn't upset Tennessee iowa would have had shot at one more quality win.

I assume the Hawkeyes will pound Illinois on Saturday night. A 10-8 record in conference is disappointing. I expected 13-5. But the next season is coming up next week, then the third season a few days after that. I love all the seasons that Iowa gets to play this year!

Anybody who had higher hopes than qualifying for the tournament after the train wreck from 06 to 09 was setting themselves up for disappointment, in my opinion. All we knew for sure was that Fran was getting his team better each year. I think anything beyond a first weekend tourney win should be viewed as icing on the cake.

And before any of you go off on me, I'm not one who settles for mediocrity. I just think we have to give it time. Next year, anything less than the NCAA tourney will be disappointing. Fran has raised the bar each year. We fans have inflated that expectation, as far as I'm concerned.

I would disagree that Iowa has a "ton of talent" - a ton of average players is more accurate.

While his teams have gotten better from year to year (debatable between this year's squad and last imo), this year's team has regressed from beginning to end. Watching this squad it's apparent that Fran hasn't had much of a clue about what to do with his "depth" or how to make in-game strategic adjustments. Not going to go very far if you can't do these two things in the BIG.

I'm not all that disappointed. I'm just not pleasantly surprised like I was in the past two seasons. IMO Iowa has met expectations this year. Most projections at the beginning of the year had them in the 20 - 23 win range and about 4th or 5th in the conference which is right where they will end up at. And I'm very excited to FINALLY have them back in the dance no matter where they end up, just because it has been so long.

I think the only disappointment is the "what could have been" factor. I mean how they have lost games the past two seasons with leads against good teams late. If the ball bounced a different way in a few games it could've been a terrific season instead of just a good one.

Keep improving every year and I'm satisfied. Last year was NIT championship game. This year it's the NCAA tournament. Baby steps...
Sure, we lose marble next year. But there are a lot of 'high quality' big ten players that will be leaving with him.
If anyone realistically believed we were are Final 4 team, they had too high of expectations. Nearly every preseason article I read had the Hawks around 5th in the Big 10. Which is exactly where we are at.

Some of you had too high of expectations. The team is exactly where many "experts" (hate using that word) picked them.

No. You're right. There's a whole lot of revisionism going.

I'm pretty sure I remember after the NIT games that everyone was saying this team better make the NCAA or Fran will start feeling the hot seat.

I'm pretty sure I remember JDMiller saying this team will be better than last season's team but the records may not show it because of the tough two-ups against the top tier teams in the the conference.

I'm pretty sure expectations were changed when a few talking heads said in the middle of this season that Iowa is final four capable. So now that the snake oil salesman sold 'us' hope, it's time to complain about the product.

Lets face it the way this team is playing right now they have 3 games left this year and the pain will finally be over....what started off so good is ending with a big clunk.
