Disappointed

I came on the board today thinking I would see a bunch of post that read

“finally they get a big win”
“way to finish the close game”
“ugly but it was a good road win”

I guess I expected to much from a message board.

We all know it was an ugly game but really what things went right.

The hawks were 21-27 from the line and that was the game right there. They made it when it counted and all last year even the start of this year that was an issue.

Aside from the shooting woes by both teams I enjoyed the game. The only thing I didn't enjoy was seeing us getting absolutely destroyed by UNC on the offensive glass. I've never seen a Hawkeye team give up that many offensive rebounds and it could/should have cost us the game.

You expected people to be happy? This board is nothing but negativity and p*ssing matches. Awesome win idc how ugly it was!!! Screw UNC!

I have seen a lot of positive posts on the board. There are always going to be people that aren't happy.

I've seen those sentiments expressed here. Read some more threads.

Most peeps are happy about the win on here....

BUT.....

arghhhhhhhh Guards play gonna ruinz us (MG just finished playing his best game ever)

Moar shooting betters or we can't play with dem Big Boys (we just beat f'n NORTH CAROLINA in Chapel Hill)....last week they were #5 and they have wins already over UCLA and FL.

Franz kept his kewl but arggghhhh it's gonna come back and hurts us when he getz real mad....

and most of all

Let's play the whole...wait and see game. I'd like to see what this squad can do when they play a "good" team.....

I feel this sums up the boards feelings today.

That's message boards.

That was only in the first half. We got almost twice as many offensive rebounds as them in the second half and actually out rebounded them overall.

Lighten up, Francis. Most of the threads, and thread titles, are started by Negative Nancies and Debbie Downers on this board. But moast of the poasts are very positive. Even if this game was not a thing of beauty, it was a great win by the Hawks, one that should help this team down the road and into the post-season. That game last night made the national sports pundits sit up and take note. Plenty of great Iowa photos from the game and the lockerroom. Someone should compile them into a thread here for posterity.

The most disappointing thing bout this game is how most of the post game focused on "how mad UNC shot the ball". ESPN never mentioned how poorly Iowa shot the ball. It's as if they believe Iowa only won cause UNC had an off night. Well I think the hawks played some stellar "D" and just straight up outplayed UNC on a night both teams shot poorly. Didn't hear or read anything on ESPN that said that tho- it was all "what a poor shooting night for UNC".

I was amazed how no one brought up how North Carolina had around 20 more shots in the first half.
Vitale was too busy talking about Duke and past Carolina players.

I think it's weird that there's a sizable number of posters whose satisfaction / disappointment and general mood is so affected by the the tone of a message board to the point that the overwhelming majority of their posts are nothing but ad hominem attacks and complaints about how the content of what others are posting and the manner in which they express it are so bothersome because it did not meet their expectations, rather than simply starting a thread of their own they found suitable.

Actually, it's quite concerning that there are such mentally fragile, emotionally unstable people who are so easily agitated able to walk freely in society.

Not the sense I get, seems to me people are pretty happy with the win. Obviously there are things this team needs to work on but that holds true for any team. Yeah it wasn't a thing of beauty last night, that was a war and our guys hung tough and came out on top. To beat a highly ranked UNC team at their place was about as good of a win as you can get; in may be the biggest win Fran has had at Iowa. This game could be a turning point for these guys and give them the confidence that they can beat anybody and win the close ones against the big boys. Time will tell, a lot of season left. Biggest surprise to me was Gesell; looked like a different player. It almost appeared like he wanted to prove something to his old AAU teammate. They need more of that Gesell if they want to make a run at the Big Ten. Also looks like the bench is pretty thin after Gabe, at least points wise, maybe someone will step up and get their offensive game going. They could really use another scorer off of the bench. Even though he's been hailed as a great outside shooter for 4 years now, it's apparent that Oglesby isn't and never will be and his numbers bear that out; I'm hoping Jok can find his stroke and be the guy to give them more offensive firepower off of the bench.

That was only in the first half. We got almost twice as many offensive rebounds as them in the second half and actually out rebounded them overall.

After being out rebounded 15-1 on the offensive boards in the first half I guess I didn't realize that we ended up out rebounding them at the end of the game. Either way though, I can't remember seeing a Hawkeye team give up 15 offensive rebounds in a half or 24 in a game. With our front court I find that very disturbing.
