BTN analyst says Jeff Tarpinian will return soon | GazetteOnline.com

CORALVILLE — Iowa middle linebacker Jeff Tarpinian reportedly broke his right hand at a practice earlier this week, but Big Ten Network analyst Gerry DiNardo said Friday that Tarpinian will return.

“Jeff will be back,†said DiNardo, who attended Iowa’s practice Thursday. “I have no reason to believe it’s for the long haul.â€

Tarpinian, a senior who is slated to replace two-year starter Pat Angerer, had a cast on his right hand Friday morning according to an observer. DiNardo, who was in town taping a one-hour special on Iowa football that appears Aug. 26, said junior Bruce Davis among others worked out with the first team at middle linebacker.

“It’s the same two-deep that they ended the spring with,†DiNardo said. “Davis was working a lot with the ones, but they were rotating in there. Sometimes it’s hard to tell exactly the depth of a practice because they roll so many players through.â€

True freshman James Morris was the team’s third-team middle linebacker as of last Saturday. Senior Troy Johnson, who was named co-Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week against Minnesota, also could figure into that role.

Also, observers noticed sophomore running back Adam Robinson walking without a limp on Friday morning.

I think that LB is the deepest position on the team....I hope Jeff gets healthy quick...but I'm confident Davis or Johnson could fill the role admirably as well.

A Rob was in practice and takin hand offs yesterday according to pics of yesterdays practice.

Tarp is snake bit like Moeaki was. I hope he can get on the field for some meaningful time this year, seems like he has endured a lot for it.
