Did they ever say what was wrong with Ricky Check-down yesterday?

hard to make a pick when you dink and dunk all game

I think we moved the ball because the OL had a great game

We had receivers get open quickly many, many times only to wait until the DBs recovered and Ricky to throw an out to Reisner or hit A-Rob for 5 yards

No ****, that is a rather important part of the game.

I guess those of us in section 136 weren't just seeing things then. On at least 3-4 occasions, Ricky missed receivers coming wide open down the field because he checked down waaaay too early. And what puzzled me the most about these is he wasn't even being pressured. The O-line did an excellent job of pass protecting yesterday, but Rick never seemed to feel comfortable waiting for those deep routes to come open.

Agreed. Saw the same things. He missed both DJK and McNutt on several occasions.

Actually, a thought just occurred to me. Every one of those plays where I remembered him checking down just as receivers were coming open downfield happened when we were driving into the south endzone, where the wind was coming from. Perhaps after his performance throwing balls into the wind against Indiana last year made him a little gun-shy yesterday?

I would like to see all of these QB gurus throw the ball 40 or 50 yards into that wind and see how successful you would be. I am sure you guys are all the same ones who wouldn't get off Stanzi's *** every time he threw an interception last year. We scored 30 points, moved the ball successfully all game, and didn't turn the ball over. No part of this loss can be blamed on the offense.

My guess is Stanzi did exactly what the gameplan called for, and did it as well as could have been asked of him. Yes, we could have tried to go deep a few more times then we did, but this was a game were every down was important, so to move the chains we opted for the 3-5 yard pickups.

I suppose that is possible tm, but I noticed it at least a few times coming toward us as well ... plus the one long pass they did connect on was into the South EZ ... although DJK was complete uncovered on that throw

Yeah DJK didn't have anyone within 20 yards of him on that one, no risk in making that throw. I'd have to watch the whole game again, but he did take more shots downfield when they were going north. They didn't connect on many (if any), but he did take some shots with the wind.

I like the baseball reference earlier. IF (and it's a very big if), but IF Ricky had an "off" game and knew he couldn't make some of those deeper throws, then just like a pitcher in baseball that has to find a way to win (ie like Chris Carpenter or Tim Lincecum being sloppy but still win 4-3). Maybe Stanzi knew he didn't have his A game, and like a previous poster has already said: "he felt more comfortable" throwing short. I personally think it was fine, Now that stanzi is more efficient like we asked him to be, we are complaining he won't air it out. come on people.
