Desmond King Not a Thorpe Award Finalist

I guess his first name wasn't fancy enough. He's probably dropped 3 other picks this year...last year he caught everything that he should have picked. It's tough to quantify how little teams have challenged him and make that argument. That being said, I don't think anyone can complain about the the way he has played. He's just a great player...plain and simple.

Hard to top last year. He's been good this year, but not a lot of chances to standout on defense. From what I've read, his position in the draft is still very good.

I doubt he would have been a Thorpe finalist last year had we not finished 12-0 Being 7-4 this year wasn't going to get him to be a finalist no matter how good he was....

Not surprised. He might have been able to get a couple more picks this season, but kind of hard for him to pile up stats when teams actively avoid his half of the field.

Picks are kind of irrelevant, teams don't throw at the other guys either. Lewis and White have two picks a piece and Jackson has four picks without a return yard. King looked pretty bad against PSU, so maybe that played a role if it was between picking semifinalist and finalists. He'll still be a first rounder whether he has one or two Thorpe trophies.

I'm pretty sure leading the country in interceptions last year helped him...irrelevant, really? How many passes defended do the other two have...Lewis and White...I'm betting it's a high number. What hurts King is that opposing offenses looked at Iowa's secondary and found three holes...whereas the other schools weren't as obvious. If you throw at King, you would have to be a complete moron. Regardless, I think Desmond has played very well...save for an off night at PSU. He has always been good in run defense...but I think he was better this year.

King has been discounted due to how the media portrays Iowa. Last year our record helped. All the media attentionthis year has gone to Michigan and Jabrill Peppers. Ohio State isn't getting as much attention because the media can't get off the Harbaugh hype wagon.

White has 10, Jackson 9, Lewis 8, King 7 in passes defended.
