Des Moines native Jeremy Hellickson

It's about time....one of the best pitching propsects in the game. The only thing holding him back is the amazing depth in Tampa Bay's rotation. Sounds like he will make a spot start Monday then go back down to AAA. Probably until September, when the Rays will call him up and use him in the bullpen a la David Price in '08.

Yeah, I agree. I know Jeremy from high school, and still talk to him occasionally. The numbers he has put up in Tampa's minor league system (at every level) have been ridiculous. If he was in 25 other organizations he would have been in a starting rotation a year or two ago. Here is to him doing well tomorrow night!

Great to hear. I went to school with his dad and aunt. Always try to get an update on him from his aunt since her kids are in the same school district as mine. Don't run into his dad much anymore. Is that the Monday night game on ESPN?

I wish. Monday night ESPN game is Braves-Mets. I am a Braves fan, but I would rather watch my boy!

I am actually worried about the game being blacked out if we go to a sports bar, which is what I am trying to get set up with a few friends who also know him from HS. What are your thoughts on this potentially getting blacked out since the Rays are playing the Twins?

He's back up to the MLB and will start today. 2 Ray's pitchers went to the DL so he will get some starts coming up. Good luck!

he lit it up tonight. 7 innings 3 hits, 7ks 0 runs.

Tim McCleland of wdsm did the game...his kid played against Hellickson many times.

At first I read it as 'he got lit up tonight' and was thinking 'oh no!'...lol. Glad to hear he did well. I was at BWW's the last time he pitched and it was crazy in there!

he looks the part - he has a very smooth delivery.

Is it just me or does his delivery seem almost effortless? A lot of guys seem like they're going to bust nut because they're putting so much energy into their delivery, but with Hellickson it seems like he hardly uses any energy, but still can throw mid-90's almost. I would love to see him have continued success. Best of luck, Jeremy. Represent!

It is not just you. His delivery is pretty fun to watch, and you are right, it appears effortless. Mariano Rivera is another guy with an effortless delivery. Wait, did I just make that comparison!? ;)

The delivery is awesome and the change up was very good last night. It's amazing that a pitcher who is 23 years old would have that pitch working like it did last night. Let's see how the league tries to adjust to him.

It has been that way since little league. The kid has a gift, and right now he is maximizing it.
