Depth Chart for Week 1

Ferguson at RT was a slight surprise and Welch won the 3rd LB spot for now. Other than that pretty much as expected.

Can Kallenberger slide inside to one of the guard spots when we get Jackson and Wirfs back?

Brian Ferentz said last week they want to keep Kallenberger at tackle this season. Levi Paulsen is the swing man that can play inside or out.

Would think they would want the bigger guy at LT in this particular case. Hope he is up to the task!

@RobHowe, I see Ferguson is #2 at LT, while Kallenberger is NOT #2 at RT. So IF Kallenberger is having issues, they slide Ferguson over to LT and bring in "Pick-Your-Paulsen" to play RT?

Those are my take aways as well. I'm guessing Bartwart has looked the part for him to have jumped the Paulsens like that. Both those tackles make me nervous and I hope this is the only game they have to play this year...

Welch getting that last LB spot kinda surprises me in that other names had been brought up lately. But he is the oldest of those in the running I suppose so we'll see if that spot is written in erasable ink or not.

ISM is returning the kicks... That dude has some wheels hope he can show them off more this year.

Isn't he the same age as Wade (3rd year junior vs. RS Soph)? Colbert is only in his 2nd year on campus. Welch was talented enough to play special teams as a true freshman, and he has always been noted for his athleticism. I hope it is a case where all 3 of those guys (Welch, Wade, and Colbert) are good enough that they find ways to get them on the field.

I get scurred when you call on o-lineman a swing man. Sounds like he will swing open like a door.

Anyway, I didn't realize that Nelson was from The U. Why did he go to Waukee? Is that a result of the crappy school boundaries The U drew back in the '50's or whatever?

Did Ferguson beat out Levi Paulsen or was it more of a byproduct of Levi being injured during camp?

I thought the Paulsen twins were going to make great guards and be starters for a couple of years based off the high acclaim when they came to the program. Have they under performed or has it just been about the injuries?

I think people are going to be impressed with Kallenberger at LT. He still needs to add 10-15 lbs. to help his run blocking but he's a very technically sound pass blocker on the blind side.

So, D line is No. IL strength, and we got two newbies at tackle? Aye, yi, yi....hope this isn't an omen

Quite possibly. I've probably just heard Welchs name more often than Wade is all then. I have no preference at all without having seen any of them play significant time yet. Just have the best guys out there is all I care

Linderbaum sneaking in there is interesting. He may get some reps in there if it's a hot day for sure. I would think they'd be rotating bodies pretty frequently if it's nasty out there ( I haven't heard the weather for up there btw) I kinda hope this will just be one of the 4 games he can appear in and still maintain his RS. This is where that rule really can benefit us...

The backup's name is an 83% match with Peyton Manning in total and his last name is pretty much the same as Johnny Football's. We're fine, bud.

Being an Iowa fan in Texas, I watched him in his HS playoffs and with a broken throwing hand beat South Grand Prairie and gave powerhouse Allen all they could handle. His arm is stronger than you think, he fits balls in tight windows, and he can move. Stanley is a beast, but if you go and watch his film (against the top level talent in Texas) you’ll see you will be just fine if he gets the call.
